steam trading cards?

I don't really see the purpose of the trading cards but I understand why people buy them since they're cheap-even many of the foils are relatively cheap- and add cosmetic effects to your profile and whatnot. They're just like all kinds of other cosmetic dlc floating around for different games.

I started selling the trading cards after beta ended and still managed to get around $10 which I used to buy a bunch of things during the Steam sale. I still have enough cards left over to complete two badges but the prices are way down for all the cards so I'm waiting for the prices to go back up for what I have and I have no problem waiting.

Major benefit I can see is that you can get coupons for money off games, although I'm not sure which ones or how often these drop.

I hear that. In total I've managed to sell $2.98, so I'm hoping to afford a BL2 DLC. Although after a while cards no longer seem to drop for me from playing BL2, so I think there must be a card limit of some kind. I suppose I'll have to play another game for a while and see if they start to drop again.

I have no idea how to craft badges, but unless I can hock the coupons if they're for a game I don't want I'll probably pass on that.

There is a limit, but once you hit it you become eligible for booster packs which drop randomly.

To craft a badge you need one of every card in the set (I think Borderlands 2 has 9) Then you just go to the badges section of your steam profile and hit craft badge. Also going there you can see how many drops you have left for all the games you own that have trading cards.

Thanks for the info. Booster packs must be fairly rare though, based on the number of hours between my last drop and now. It's good to know though that I can just look to see how many drops are left, although unless I'm really close to affording a DLC I probably won't farm...

I happen to be a big fan of the trading cards, though I have spent less than $5 on my whole collection. I find it most enjoyable to be able to collect trading cards from my favourite games and get badges to represent my obsession love of these games.

My only thing I don't like about the cards are, I was selling them for ~$1 a piece when they first came out, and bought new cards with the ~$1 I received from them.

If I would've just waited I could've used that $1 to just buy an entire set of cards because they're going for 3 cents or something silly now.

I like them, because I can sell them and I don't even have to work for them, so yeah. Does Steam level actually give you anything?

My friend told me that because he wasn't a certain level, he wasn't able to get trading cards from voting during the sale.

You kidding me? I already made ?5 with that crap. Leveling up increases the drop rate. Nice way to exploit the magpie-people. Just sell every excess one you get and you can afford some new games at the next steam sale.

It sits just below your avatar on your profile and I've seen similar things for the badges you have collected, achievements that you choose to display, etc. That one is for the rarest achievements you have gotten I believe.

Is that the rarest achievements one or the one where you pick some achievements to show off?

My account is level 20, and I use the Rarest Achievements and Game Collector as my two showcases, see http://steamcommunity.com/id/Schadrach42 . There's a whole list of them to choose from though, including ones for showing off stuff you have, or stuff you want to trade, or badges you've collected, your Workshop stuff, your Screenshots, or what have you.

I find it kind of amusing that most of my rarest achievements are because they're from not very popular games, except the one each from LA Noire and Dishonored. Also that Back Home (kill someone with their own grenade) is a more rare Dishonored achievement than Clean Hands.

It's a thing about collecting shit. It's a nice side thing you can do if you want to; or completely ignore at your leisure.

I like it, generally for the same reason why I like collectibles in games. I do not care for them enough to pay real money but I really enjoy the premise of being able to collect these little cards (that also double as neat desktop wallpapers). It takes me back to third grade; we used to buy, collect and trade Pokemon stickers with friends.

And I do not enjoy being called stupid for liking the idea, which I have been one too many times in this thread. Consider the possibility that some people may enjoy things that you don't and stop insulting them for it. Thank you.
