Steam Trouble Pls Help!

Hey guys i know alot of you use steam alot so i have a question. After i download some games it says their going to run then either shows the splash screen then crashes and resets my computer or just crashes and resets my computer. I have windows xp. Any Ideas guys and Gals?

Steam forcing a computer reset/restart? That's beyond unusual.
When was the last time you played a game successfully?
How demanding are the games you downloaded? Are they very new games?
How old is your hardware on your computer?

I can play 2 out of 4 games i downloaded
one of the games was Monday night combat as it was free trial yesterday
i Believe i have a Athlon 64 3500+ processor,and my computer can successfully run fallout 3

EDIT: for some reason it just started working i dunno why but thanks anyway!
