I've spent the past few months organizing a steampunk ball for my nonprofit. This required fundraisers, a whole crapton of scrap metal, and explaining to pretty much everyone involved what steampunk is.
It appears to have worked, though, since I got a call from the newspaper asking for an interview. They're going to run an article on steampunk and its surrounding culture the day after the ball, with photos of all our costumes and all the junk we made. I am spreading the word. Steam will be the new Vampires, soon, you watch.
