I hope everyone has seen Colbert's report on Anonymous's attacks on Aaron Barr likened to Barr putting his penis in a hornet's nest. When his interviewee Glenn Greenwald describes Anonymous there is a single frame at 10:38 where a Guy Fawkes mask covers Colbert's face. I am not behind this, you can watch the segment yourself from the February 24 show.

So is Anonymous behind this? Is Colbert himself behind it? Or is it some joker on Colbert's staff?

Well by simply the title of the effect, if it were true, then Anonymous would have to change it's name to being "Stephen Colbert". Although this would infer that their efforts have penetrated the nearest limits of space [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treadmill_with_Vibration_Isolation_System], it would make it somewhat harder to take the "Internet Superintelligence" seriously, don't you?

It's just a joke - like 99% of Colbert's program. Don't really see the need to read into it at all. Almost everything Colbert does on his program is tongue in cheek.

it is a joke.

Colbert, or his writers, thought it would be funny to insinuate that he might belong to the group. Or that the show had somehow been "hacked" (although honestly, that's probably a ridiculous impossibility)

I would bet my whole world that he isn't.

I'm sure it will be a long running gag.

Hm, while I doubt that he is Anonymous, I applaud you for catching this (if it was you who caught it, idk) Very nice touch, writers.

Yeah... really, you wouldn't think it was anything other then a joke, on a joke filled fake news program?

This means that anon has finally grown up, gotten jobs and has infiltrated all layers of society. Be prepared.

I'll just leave this here. Make of it what you will.
Colbert being a faux commentator? Wow, the guy who wrote that doesn't watch the show then. Because he spends time making fun of them as much as he does with everyone else.
I actually left the link for the video, but I think the guy who wrote the article was referring to the fact the Colbert is playing a character on his show.

It's obviously a joke. However, I'm more concerned by something else. Who the hell found this? It's a single frame, of which there are usually around 24 frames per second of footage for any footage of a reasonable speed. 24 fps is certainly what I always edit in. So this would not have been picked up by ANYONE watching at a normal speed. How the hell, therefore, was it discovered? Did someone literally go over each and every frame, checking the image for anything weird, just in case something turned up?

EDIT: Okay, I made a mistake, having since watched the segment I saw the image, and it lasts for about half a second. Which suggests that at least 12 frames have this image, meaning the OP made a mistake too, so I don't take full blame here. :p

The joke on the show was that colbert said he went through ever frame himself, because he loves watching himself that much.

So it was probably their own team.

This. Its just a joke. Not the first time hes made a reference to them or done things for the sake of groups on the internet for them to recognize.

He/the writers probably think what they did in this recent case was good, so they showed some support.

It's Colbert.

Anyone who takes him seriously is just an idiot. His only somewhat sincere moments are in interviews, which are mostly him glorifying himself and being an ass to the person he interviews, for the sake of comedy.

I think it's probably just a joke perpetrated by SC himself, though I wouldn't put it past a staff member to try and sneak it in there as a joke. I thought it was funny though.

Don't you think you're being a little agressive?
