Idk how many Canadians we have on this forum, or people who are interested in Canadian politics, but I found this letter to the editor that was sent to a newspaper from here. The story was supposedly found to be the truth, otherwise the newspaper would never have published it.

Stephen Harper and his friends

Members of Parliament for the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC), including Stephen Harper himself, the President of The Treasury Board Vic Toews, the Minister of International Trade Stockwell Day, MP Gary Breitkreuz and MP David Sweet, past president of the Promise Keepers Canada, have links to U.S. Christian right-wing organizations - these are fundamentalists who want government rule based on religion (a theocracy which is a dictatorshp). The Christian Right is growing in power and influence in Canada especally since the CPC came to power.

Focus on the Family Canada is a subsidiary of its U.S. counterpart and provided campaign support to Harper's Conservative Party. The Promise Keepers Canada, influenced by its counterpart in the U.S., encouraged its members to provide grass roots support and financial assistance to the CPC. Isn't that the same as having a U.S. Christian Right Wing organization influencing who gets elected in Canada? Does that mean that Harper and his men want Canada to be controlled by sthe U.S. Christian yahoos? It certainly looks that way.

The Promise Keepers have ties with the Watchmen for the Nations. That's an interesting and frightening assembly of Christian Right oppressors, monitoring those deemed by their hierarchy of being a threat to their God agenda. It is an army ready and willing to fight for "God" when the leadership upon them to do so.

We Quebecois, remember the Maurice Duplessis era and the strong hold the Church had on the provincial government who chose to ignore the rule of law and illegally punished those who went against the Duplessis government agenda (see Roncarelli v Duplessis). And a further note, Duplessis founded the Union National which led to the rise of separatism in Quebec, a revolutionary group bent on a dictatorship, also using religion as a promotional tool for their cause.

Catholics and the Jews had better take note for they are being used to further the non-mainstream Christian Right agenda, but they will not share in the religious rule of any government the Christian Right establishes. Catholics and the Jews had better learn what history has to say about dictators.

For those who have a reverence for the Bible, St. Mathew quotes Jesus as having said, 'Render unto Caesar, therefore, what is Caesar's and to God the things that are God's'. Interpretation: do not mix religion with politics.

Canadians, let us protect our liberty!

Tell me what you guys think. Is this potentially dangerous for Canadians?

(I know the letter says "we Quebecois", I'm not in Quebec myself the letter was just published there.)

It is concerning. Far right parties grow in popularity in times of uncertainty (e.g recession). National parties are also growing here in the UK; though here they tend to be less "Norsefire" and more "Benny Hill".

i'm a bit surprise to see this letter comming from quebec. Even if we did indeed remember Duplessis era, we are the least religious province and we are not even the same religion that stephen harper...

we already dont vote for him, i cannot see what we can do more against him...

Passingly strange letter. I can't really argue with it a great deal, there are more than a few Conservatives who came up through the Reform Party which did have a fairly heavy Christian influence.

What it really came down to (at least for myself) when the PC's formed the government, was there was no alternate choice to go with that didn't frankly embarrass me. I was dead sick of the plethora of Liberal Party scandals, and a seemingly non-caring attitude to public reaction and concern. Not too mention an appalling number of foot in mouth cases of senior cabinet members being absolutely ignorant towards our stateside neighbours.

Harper, while most certainly not of great popularity, knows how to keep his party in line. While I can't agree with many of the things he has done, at least he makes decisions.

I'm not a fan of any party, and I find it idiotic to give support based upon party lines. I think we're all still waiting for a 'great leader' to come about, but damned if I've managed to identify who it is.

that's funny it is coming from quebec, they are just whining cause they aren't getting all the money and whatever they want. Harper has largely ignored quebec, which is a great thing cause they get too much attention.

as for the content of the letter, it's complete and utter crap and full of a ton of bs
