Actually, I'm inclined to agree.xitel said:...that's the kind of guy I hate. I really really hate. Because they didn't create the stereotype, they are molding themselves to fit it. Ask almost any gay guy, the flamboyant flaming gays are just annoying as hell.Suikun said:All flame-y gay guys speak with a lithp. A friend of mine (who I kid you not is probably the gayest gay to ever gay a gay, and he's proud of it) flips his wrist, wears bright colors, and speaks just like every other person... aside from all the funny inflections, "filler phrases", and high-pitched talk that go along with the valley-girl-esque thing.
A lot of camp gay guys I know are just genuinely camp. that is their nature, and they don't make any apology for it. However, they are as diverse as eachother, and only have a few effeminate traits. Compare them to your typical Sit-Com token gay character, and they are butch by comparison. - However, the perpetuated stereotype, which is a heterosexual construct, is more memorable because of his OTT-ness. Most camp people don't adhere to the stereotype, although they may share one or two traits.
As Xitel says, there is a small, but highly visible contingent who seem to mould themselves into the stereotype, purely out of a sense of wanting to belong. Usually very young, still confused, they want to be accepted by their peers. In order to do that, they put on the act, and in doing so, do themselves, and the gay community, no favours at all!
Most gay guys I know are just average people who have normal ordinary lives, and just happen to prefer to sleep with the same sex. However, we 'Str8-acting' gay guys are not going to appear on an episode of "Will & Grace" any time soon, because we're generally too mundane & down to earth.
