Sticky aim/aim assist.

I have just watched yet another "epic 360 jumping quick scope shot" after pointing out how out sick the aim assist is on consoles, I was quoted multiple times with things like "it's pure luck!", "shut up PC fanboy", "everybody on PC has hacks" etc.

So I was wondering how screwed would we console gamers be without this massive aid?

I think there would be a massive amount of spraying in the early days, after a month or so people would adapt and start getting better.

Of course our accuracy would still be a bad, but I think it's better than having stabilizers on guns (like on kiddies bike).

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the shot was 2-3 inches off in the kill cam ... it was just shocking.

compared to PC aiming... your boned... people would take ages to finish rounds because noone would be able to hit anyone else... would probably make most weapons useless (ie' assualt rifle, halo) by the time youve hit them for the second time theyve healed from the first time

When I still had an xbox and played Black SP it took me a while to get used to the controls but by the end of the campaign I was popping off headshots quite easily. The problem you have is that one of the major appeals of consoles is the ability to just play, as opposed to learning how best to play.

I'm pretty sure Far Cry 2 doesn't have aim assist in PS3 multiplayer, thats a tough online game, going from MW2 and KZ2 to FC2 (enough with the fucking acronyms already!) is a really jarring experience actually.

And some games have a slightly borked aim assist, if there are 3 players in front of you KillZone 2 sometimes gets confused and flips between them.

Autoaim just doesn't give you the same feedback as aiming yourself does. Which is why i don't play games with it anymore, just less fun.
Even stating that its there gets you "in trouble" at fanboy ridden places I guess.
Lets be honest, without autoaim you would either only be able to hit 10 meters ahead of you with a pistol (which is about how good you can aim irl with out reticle and iron sight) and barley be able to turn or be able to turn rather quick but everything non assault would be useless.
I understand why it's there and don't think it should be removed, just acknowledge it maybe by an option to turn autoaim off.
In Cod, people knives all the time unless your on pc, then snipers get really annoying. I think that illustrates the platform differences pretty well.

Here is the video in question.

I mean, comon! If that was luck, there is a full on hurricane to make that bullet curve to kill the guy.

I don't mind that it's there. When I'm playing a shooter, I want a fairly fast paced experience anyway, and aim assist can really help to streamline shootouts.

That said, it should be much tighter than that, and I get annoyed with it when I start noticing it autocorrecting me a lot during gameplay.

I'm sorry but that guy shot the mountain side.

I've never played MW2 in English, its quite funny hearing the cockney.

Yeah, it can speed things up but being corrected by 2 inches and bullets curving round corners is a step too far.

Bullets going round corners is lag, basically the game realises that chap called "KillerBread" actually killed you before you took cover and throws a fit.

Lag is pretty bad from continent to continent, so try to stick to players in your own country, if then the game still lags heavily you are legally obligated to shout "HAXX!" and "WTF LAGSWITCHER!".

When i play xbox i hate the auto aim, and please dont be like "everyone on console would suck" because it really isn't that hard to aim, if your having trouble turn your sensitivity down. Personally i play on the highest setting (but low on pc) because it just feels more natural for me.

I would also like to point out that he wasnt zoomed in so that bullet could have gone anywhere in the crosshairs, he was just really lucky.

Well to be honest most games aim assist is not that strong so it not like if it was suddenly turned of everybody would not be able to kill anybody. Also i know alot of people turn it off especially snipers as it slows down the crosshairs when you aim across a group.

So both gaming styles have there pros and cons.Bu tsaying that taking auto aim off consoles would suddenly make every player unable to shoot it total rubbish.

Except the cross hairs were on a mountain when he fired, watch at 18/19 seconds were he fires.

I am not saying unable to shoot, just it would be a shock to people to realize how much the assist actually does for them and how forgiving it is.

One of my biggest pet peeves that, ducking round a corner only to still die, some instances I have been a victim to have been sheer robbery.

I don't use Aim-Assist. Not only that but I mainly use my PS3 for Vs Fighters, Hack and Slash, and console exclusives (of course). I play CoD on the console, but that's mainly because it is now a console-orientated game, and NONE of my friends are PC gamers. They all use PS3. The thing that I am sick of hearing is "OMG!!!11! THE PAD SUXX HTF CAN U USE THAT PIECE OF S#!T!!?!?!" The pad is better for some, the KB+M is better for some. Personally, if I'm playing an FPS, that is Twitch-Gamer orientated (Eg. CoD), I like my gamepad. More Tactical and precise? (BFBC2) KB+M. And, having grown up on my pad, way back since the SNES, N64 and PS, The pad is second nature to me. I do have one question though. How the fuck can you play Racing or Vs Fighters on a KB+M setup? It drives me insane. Racing, you have no precision to you're turns. You either go "All the way left/right", or "Slam the brakes/Floor the Accelerator". And then there are the Vs Fighters. HOW the fuck can you pull off a Shoryuken on SSFIV on you're arrow keys? Its physically impossible!

TLDR; I like to have both, and pick and choose based on what game I'm playing. Both the Pad and the KB+M have their merits and downfalls, and they are both better suited to different types of games. So please stop slating the pad all of you PC Elitists, because, yes I am a PC gamer, and yes, I full on acknowledge that the pad is just as good.

That looks like it was just luck, the crosshair wasn't anywhere near the guy. Aim-asist just lowers the sensitivity as your crosshair gets near enemies (or snaps to them when you IS), it doesn't curve bullets in the air.
It actually sticks to the enemy, like a magnet effect. So as you go over the enemy to cross hairs are drawn to the enemy, then you fire straight ahead and lag makes up the rest of it.
