Ya know... I kinda like that. It hearkens to a time when you had to navigate the seas with a navigator, even if you're a captain. Maybe learn what the heck a map could do for you and jot your own courses. Life was in your hands.

Same as this. You don't know where the hell you're going but you're going to enjoy the game while you're doing it. I find that with a minimap, I look more towards that than the overworld map in a number of games.

also I found it incredibly hard to get lost in Spree.

the elven forest I did get lost in for a while, but only because it all looks the same.

linearity isn't actually a bad thing. it's kind of like reading a book. you just play it instead.
