Know I am by no means an expert on the habits of Escapists, but judging by the perfect grammar and spelling, coupled with the wonderfully written reviews almost everyone has done, I am pretty confident in saying that we Escapists are good writers.

This is why I offer this challenge to you few and proud Escapists.

I challenge you to write a short story incorporating the following 10 words:

1.trapezoid
2.rhombus
3.isosceles
4.scalene
5.obtuse
6.acute
7.quadrant
8.translation
9.rotation
10.reflection

Rules:

1. All 10 words must be used, in their origional, mathematical context and definition
2. The context each word is in must be clear enough to be able to desifer the meaning of said word
3. The main character must be named Johnny
4. The story must involve some kind of magic
5. Can't be more than 500 words

Are you up to the challenge? I will be posting my entry later, but this is about you. Can you all accomplish this task?

We shall see... muahahahahaha MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, sorry... get writing!

Johnny the Mage was practicing using magic to surf the Internet. He discovered a strange website.
"Wow!" he said. "This website has a lot of smart people!"
Something caught his eye.
"Forum Games & RP? That looks like fun!"
He clicked on the first link.
"A story? With the words trapezoid, rhombus, isosceles, scalene, obtuse, acute, quadrant, translation, rotation, and reflection? Sounds interesting!"
So Johnny wrote a story that contained all those words.

The End.

Do I win a prize or something?

That hardly seems to use the words in context at all, and maybe... if you all write something really cool.

Alright...

*Cracks knuckles*

Let's do this thing.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The Phenomenon.

"Look, professor... It's all very simple. I used-"

"Yes, I know you used Smithfield's Logical Construct during your scrying lesson, Johnny, but it doesn't mean you obtained the one true image of the Bermuda Triangle."

"Why not?!"

Johnny was at his wit's end. While he had an adequate semester at Grand Theorem Magic Academy, Professor Cornwallis continued to stonewall his every attempt at discovery of a singular undeniable truth. This time, it was the issue of his epiphany during Methodical Scrying, where he tried to glean the true shape of the mysterious phenomenon, the Bermuda Triangle.

"Why not?", said he, "I'll tell you why not. Because in all the time of its study, no idiot in his right mind has ever accused the Bermuda Triangle of being...a trapezoid."

"It's possible and you know it! Look, Dr. Murray Sutherland made it clear that phenomenon may take other forms when he pronounced discovery of the New Jersey Quadrilateral. Furthermore, he stated that any phenomenal object that did not adhere to an exact shape as his was inaccurately measure!"

"So?"

"So...it's like the case of Robertson's Phantom Rhombus. It was never properly scryed."

"Never properly..."

The professor began to look more than frustrated now, but venomously angered. It didn't look good on him, though Johnny was enjoying the fluster. A snarl had crept into his voice and a sneer grew on his lip as he spoke.

"Now look here, you... Mad Robertson aside, countless experts have dedicated their study to the Bermuda Triangle. Generations of the best minds, flinging their consciousness into the breach armed with only their sound reason as defense. They examined-"

"And they failed! Don't you see, professor? All their great attempts? The Great Translation of '55. The Alternating Rotation of '76, The Modern Reflection of '95 - all these great mathematical wizards have dedicated their studies and have come up with bupkiss!"

"Okay, that's the very last from you, Johnny Aces. So before I expel you, I'll explain it to you clearly and don't you dare interrupt this time!"

This time, he did not. He patiently awaited the professor's defense.

"The combined wisdom of our age has, indeed, never been able to gain an accurate vision or set of dimensions of the Bermuda Triangle, that is true. But in the fullness of their efforts, they have never disagreed on the one thing. That it is a triangle, neither too acute...nor so obtuse. The borders and the endpoints seem to vary with each estimate, making it impossible to tell whether it is scalene, isosceles, or equilateral. A triangle, Mr. Aces, not a TRAPEZOID!"

He had to catch his breath after that. Johnny waited.

"You done?"

"Yes, and so are you."

"Well, before I turn in my robes for good, lemme just ask you... Did you ever just walk your mind along its border and measure manually?"

"What? No. Get out, damn you. I'll have no more of this!"

Johnny did, but finally proved his theory five years later.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

There ya go.

Heh, for those curious, Johnny Aces is now an official character of mine. I think I win.
