So I looking at the listings of movies being released in the next couple of months when I stumble across an animated movie called Alpha & Omega. It's looks rather average but as I'm reading the synopsis I notice this:

What makes for the ultimate road trip? Hitchhiking, truck stops, angry bears, prickly porcupines and a golfing goose with a duck caddy. Just ask Kate and Humphrey, two wolves who are trying to get home after being taken by park rangers and shipped halfway across the country. Humphrey is an Omega wolf, whose days are about quick wit, snappy one-liners and hanging with his motley crew of fun-loving wolves and video-gaming squirrels. Kate is an Alpha: duty, discipline and sleek Lara Croft eye-popping moves fuel her fire. Humphrey's motto -- make 'em laugh. Kate's motto -- I'm the boss. Back home rival wolf packs are on the march and conflict is brewing. Only Kate and Humphrey can restore the peace. But first, they have to survive each other.

So this movie is about a wolf who moves like Lara Croft? I just...there's something incomprehensible about that. I try to picture that in my mind and all I see is a giant WTF and a jug of Brain Bleach.

So with that in mind, what is the absolute strangest videogame reference (in other media) that just made you go WTF?

Probably when World of Warcraft was mentioned in Stargate and How I Met Your Mother (i think?)

As for references to other media IN games themselves, probably finding The Wheel in Singularity. It was a love-letter to Lost fans (those who remember the frozen wheel that was never really explained). Also the hatch in the Xmen Origins: Wolverine game that was also a reference to Lost.

Or the Island in Just Cause 2 that causes your plane to crash, has a man covered in black smoke who takes a million hits to kill, has a hatch and the remains on a plane with some dead people.

JC2 had some really cool easter eggs. Have you found the ultimate gun?

Also, that movie looks interesting.

Nope, never played JC 2. Only read about the reference in an article. And I'm a little bit curious about those video-gaming squirrels.

The only one I could think of was in the final battle in No More Heroes:
Travis T: Jeane... There's just one thing I wanna ask you. Who are you?

Jeane: Me? You don't need to know. All of your trivial questions will be
answered in the afterlife.

Travis T: Answer me!

Jeane: It's impossible.

Travis T: Impossible? What do you mean?

Jeane: It's too terrible. It alone would jack up the age rating of this game
even further.

Travis T: So what? Who cares?

Jeane: What if the game gets delayed? You don't want this to become "NO MORE
HEROES FOREVER", do you?

I've seen previews for the movie you are talking about. Somehow, they make a wolf look pretty and she's very fast and acrobatic, so there's your Lara Croft movement. Not sure why they chose that character though...

On Topic: In Charlie's Angels (I think), one of the girls falls into the backyard, naked, of these two kids who are playing video games. What's funny is that the boys are playing Final Fantasy VIII and are MASHING buttons on BOTH controllers during a battle. There is no button mashing in that game and it's certainly not two player.
