There was always a considerably extensive list of characters that have been featured in the Street fighter mythos. Which brings up the question: "Uh... Where are they?"

The character roster has been shortened due to the impressive graphics update, but I do remember an updated model of T. Hawk but, I dunno...

Anyway, are there any characters you guys feel were a real miss from the bunch of eccentric freaks?

SHORYUKEN!

Street Fighter IV is a return to the street fighter 2 turbo world/storyline. Hence the controls are more like that of Street Fighter 2 as are the characters and character storylines.

Personally I was never a huge fan of the alpha installments. It just got to be too much like every other fighting game, with hundreds of combos which were more or less just variations of each other. I think the concise moves list for each character. It brings back that feeling of strategy into the fighting genre, as opposed to the button mashing combo madness of that soul calibur has made so popular.

Yeah it's nice to escape cliche's every now and again.

Well my first fighting games were Streetfighter 2 turbo and Mortal Kombat(1). I know the genre has evolved a good deal since those titles, but I found Street Fighter IV to be a nostalgic experience. That might be one reason why I like it so much. I could never really get into the Soul Calibur series, or the Dead or Alive series. They all seemed to favor combos over special moves, which while good in theory, ended up with each character having a book for a moves list, and thus people would end up learning 1 or 2 good moves or combos and than just button mash for the rest of the round.

Maybe its because I never spent enough time with those other titles, but I found the strategy element to be more prevalent in games with smaller move lists.

I'm not that thrilled with the game overall, but it's not the roster that does it (though I do miss Makoto, Yun, and Yang). I actually like Abel and El Fuerte, and I'm glad Sakura returns.

...I'm sorry, did you just say the Soul Calibur series are combo-heavy games? I can understand the (horribly wrong) impression that they're button mashers, but SC has far more in common with SF4 than SF Alpha.
