Seriously would be appreciated right now. Something reasonably challenging, not too loud or action heavy or violent, draws you in and away from real life, calm, at your own pace, easy to pick up and play with no steep learning curve.
Suggestions would me very much appreciated.

I'd recommend one of the PS2 third person games like Ratchet & Clank or Jak & Daxter or whatever.

Well, I had a few suggestions, but then you added the qualifier, "not too loud or action heavy or violent."

Because to me, those alone are good stress relievers.

Audiosurf is actually pretty relaxing if you make it black and white...

I understand that a lot of people get stress relief from things like that, but I prefer to calm down rather than smash it out.

Robot Unicorn attack. Not sure why, but this always seems to make me feel better. I think it's the combination of synth music and rainbows.

But barring that, Minecraft. Can't get more your own pace than that, it's not violent unless you want it to be, and the dificult is based on the complexity of your constructions.

Knytt Stories.

It's an ambient/exploration-based 2D platformer by Nifflas. It's a really great experience that'll last you a good 6-8 hours with the additional levels. It's easy enough, and if you get stuck you can just wander around some more and enjoy the scenery. Because it's really worth it.

And this game needs more publicity in any case. Here's a link for anyone who's interested:

How about some of those free flash porn games you might find on Newgrounds or wherever? Nothing helps me reduce my stress better than porn.

Minecraft.

It's the most soothing game I've ever played, especially when the music plays.
