Stricken by the dreaded YLOD

It seems only like last night when I sat down and decided to pwn some noobs for a few hours on AssCreedBro. Much to my dismay, my ps3 beeped a sickly yellow, and then blinked red in defeat.

Immediately followed my panic attack.

I have sadly been ravaged by the yellow light of death. Similar to the 360's red ring, but much more inspecific and usually an even worse fate. Look it up.

I must admit the last couple days have been very productive. I created an Ebay and Paypal account, should have a 250 gb HDD coming in the mail soon, and spent four hours completely dismantling my fat sack of crap and cleaning it as best I could. Much to my dismay, it looks as if I'll have to buy a slim.

So Escapists, have you ever had the heart-wrenching feeling of a system failure? If so, please share, to ease my aching soul.

Sigh. Looks like I'm gonna be playing a lot of LOTRO the next few weeks.

Yup. Had the RRoD the day before christmas, and all my presents were Xbox-related.

I raged around the house after that happened; no one was home and I had nothing to vent against.

I once had the red ring on my xbox 360 elite. Longest few weeks of my life waiting for Microsoft to ship me a new one. That was 2 years ago and it hasn't died on me since.

I've never had a system crash on me before. Probably because the newest thing I got is my PS2 slim. And we all know those never fuck up unless they are physically damaged because of force, not over usage.

I had the Blue Screen Of Death on my PC two weeks ago. About 10 gigabytes of music, 9 movies i had pirated, but hadn't watched and three games that were currently there all down the sh!tter. Had to pay 50 levs(thats about 40 bucks)for repairs. That made me mad!

P.S. - BTW first post EVAR!!!
and because you mentioned piracy it might be your last as for the post i have never had any system break on me

It still worked after though right? then the system did not break and you did not need repairs or replacements.

It's like winning a "Who has more bullets in their torso" contest. You have more, but we're both still dead.
I'm honored to have died by your side brother/sister.

One of the kids in the year at school above me works for a playstation repair company, and deals with this sort of stuff. I'm surprised that PS3s break down regularly enough to warrant a company dedicated to their repair, but apparently the company not only stays in business, but also does quite well. I won't link it or anything because it'd both be considered advertising and it's probably useless to you anyway, with its being in Australia and all, but you can definitely find places that can fix these problems, as opposed to actually buying a whole new system.

Anyways, I had to wait six weeks for my xbox to be repaired a couple of years back, but it broken since.

Never had a system break on me, ever. I still have my very first ever PS2, those things just don't die. The controllers on the other hand aren't made by Sony, and tend to last a month or two.

Personal console history:

3 360's RROD'd on me, 2 of them did it twice.
My ps3 ONCE overheated and glitched out real bad, but I got a cooling fan and it was fine.
Sold that and got a slimline because my ps3 was outdated and had little memory. Because Sony sucks at making cords, I've gone through 3 AV cords before I bought a HDMI cable at Best Buy. It works fine now.

Love the PS3 Slim, aside from its cord chewing it's the best disc-based console I've ever owned, and I owned Sega Saturn(it liked to scratch discs), Dreamcast(had to aim 3 fans at it on high and never play longer than 30min to keep it from frying), Gamecube(nigh-unbreakable but low-tech), Wii, xbox, ps2, 360 and ps3.

A few computers have died on me. Mostly thanks to Age of Conan frying my system.
I won't try that game again. :<

I still have my original controllers. One of them has a crack in the side that I bound up with electrical tape because there's a short that will shock you when the rumble feature goes off. The other has a control stick that slightly desynchs every once in a while, causing characters to slowly walk to the left.

Ye Gods man/woman. Why torture yourself and your wallet so?

I myself have gone through two Xbox 360's (one of which was a collector's edition) and I am really, really cautious about getting another.

Gone through any number of computer components.

Thankfully, my NES, SNES and PS2 are still trucking away. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

Yeah, about two years ago, my brother's fat PS3 decided to have a YLOD, just after I started it up and slipped in GTA4. I still haven't gotten GTA4 back. :(
