"That army of robotic assembly line workers we mentioned yesterday apparently can't get started soon enough. As many as 3,000-4,000 workers are on strike at Foxconn's Zhengzhou factory, upset at stricter quality control requirements with the iPhone 5 and having to work through a national holiday this week. 'According to workers, multiple iPhone 5 production lines from various factory buildings were in a state of paralysis for the entire day,' China Labor Watch said. Sina Weibo and Tencent Weibo are both blocking searches in Chinese for 'Foxconn strikes.'"

What do you think about this? I think it's unacceptable, the whole thing Apple is doing. First with their whole unpaid internship bullshit http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.388142-Chinese-Students-Say-They-Are-Being-Forced-To-Build-Your-Next-iPhone#15530092 (can read about it here) and then they force people to work through holidays all while huge ISP companies cover the whole issue.

This belongs in the politics board.

OT: Ya I actually knew about this from a month or so ago when it was still just hearsay. I signed a few petitions on the subject to be honest but I am a poor student so there really isn't a good deal I can do in the ways of actual support for now.

Well as usual I think the most efficient way of protesting stuff like this is not buy their products until the get it together Oo. We all know that won't happen though, many people are glad to overlook these 'minor details' to get a brand new iPhone... Whats wrong with the 4S?!

I can't say I like it... Those parts of the world have poor enough working conditions as it is. It blows my mind that anyone can do business in this way though. When the place I work got in contact with a chinese factory for production (lets face it, the only place one can produce and be competitive if your a small company...) we had some VERY strict demands concerning the working conditions the people there would be under. The factory owners want the business and will pretty much always bow to this kind of preasure. Simple things like air conditioning, ventilation, protective gear and a 30 minute payed lunch break is some of the things we pushed trough with great ease. It's not even dificult! The first visit was horrible, the workers had awful conditions. 2 month later all of the things I mentioned were in effect. The only thing that is hard to push trough is a general pay-rise for the workers, that means a relatively large bump in costs for the factory owner on a long-term basis and they don't like that...
