Student Body Government?

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that the majority of us escapists have been to middle/high school, and probably had a Student Body Government at some point. So I was wondering, how good is/was your Student Government? Did they actually do stuff?

My experience is that our Student Government is kind of a joke. Aside from an occasional Spirit Week, it doesn't really seem to do anything. And when it does do stuff, it's never very well thought out. For example, last February we had "Segregation Week." Nope, I'm serious. To celebrate equality, each grad class was given a color, and around the halls there were signs saying "yellows only" on the drinking fountains, "Oranges not allowed in this bathroom," "Greens use other stairs," etc. Really not the direction I thought we were supposed to be going with this...

Anyway, Thoughts? Experiences? Opinions? What is/was your Student Body Government like?

Ours recently hosted a dodgeball tournament. To me, that makes them awesome.

However, last year's government promised us an SSBB tournament. We never got it. This year's promised the same thing. If we don't get it, there will be retribution! (The "President" actually told me, specifically, that I could beat him up if we don't get our Brawl tournament. I will be holding him to that.)

At uni we have various societies who host parties and preside over various events. The closest any of these came to making an impact besides getting folk inebriated was when the Nigerian Society (even they) hospitalised a Caribbean guy over an argument over which sub-genre of 'black people' was superior.
