I have plans to study abroad at two university's. Swansea U or Bradford U. I will be studying Criminal Justice.

I also have the option to study in the Spring or the Fall semester (possibly the year).

My question to you, UK citizens, is which University would you recommend and which semester would you recommend.

Please give me some details as to why. I want to make the most out of my trip.

Thank you for your input.

Never been to Swansea, but my opinion on Bradford is... not positive. Famous for a big immigrant population, though.

I've not seen Bradfords but I have been to Swansea, and toured the uni (also had a friend who went there) the uni itself is quite nice but Swansea is a bit of a dive. I'm sure those who live there think otherwise but as a visitor there wasn't much to actually do.
And I would suggest Spring rather than Winter. Winters in Wales can be very very cold.

I don't know of any especially great or bad reputation for either university.

Swansea: South coast of Wales. Sheep, Unpronounceable sign names, Cold Choppy Irish Sea water, not especially good beer. Probably has a castle or something. Some distance away from Cardiff where they film Doctor Who.

Bradford: Industrial city noted for it's racial tension. Between York for the history and Manchester for the night life but not a really short journey.

Swansea's a shithole, Bradford has a large Muslim population and so the BNP love to goad them, take your pick.

As a heads up, both are nowhere near London, so a day trip to the capital is out of the question (I don't mean to presume, but London's always been a big draw for the American students at our campus).

Swansea campus looked quite good when I had a gf up there...A lot better than the Glamorgan one...Plus it is actually possible to have a good night out there and the gower is fucking off the hook.

Also spring and fall for us in wales are more or less identical...It can either be really shit or really nice :)

*edit* Also you can easily take day trips to St.Davids/Cardiff and even to the neighbours across the Irish sea from Swansea

I don't actually do my degree at a University I do mine in a college as a joint organisation program so I don't know as much about University life, but all I can say is it's probably better to see both for yourself if you can than ask other opinions for it because they aren't your opinion.

For example I could have gone to Glamorgon but didn't because I didn't think I would do well there when my friend did go there, everyone is different you might like somewhere other people don't.

Purely on local Id go with Swansea, but I grew up in the north so I'm somewhat bias, take this into account in my post. The city itself might not be the best (I have never been myself) but I went to the uni on an open day and its pretty good. Also its in good walking country, within travelling distances of some nice national parks and some great beaches.

Bradford is a pretty heavy centre of immigration and racial tensions "can" be pretty high. Its a long way from the coast but your nearest national park is probably the the Yorkshire Dales and its very close.

City wise Bradford is nice and close to Sheffield (1hr30 train, 1 change in Leeds) which is a pretty nice place to go and visit for shopping and just to hang about, it has some lovely water features and a like, as well as having the Sheffield Hallam Arena, which every major band/show going visits when going round the north of England, as well as the Sheffield Octagon for smaller venues. Bradford has a regular trains to London with one change in Leeds (19 min run). Leeds will provide you will the comforts of a city such as cinemas and a like but in itself isnt much to write home about.

Im not in a good position to comment on Cardiff/Swansea as a city having never been. However there is a through train from Swansea to London on a semi regular basis. Its an hour run from Cardiff which should have some fairly sizeable shopping centres and an arena for concerts, as well as being 1hr30 from Bristol with you should go see at some point if you go to Swansea. Its a lovely city with some amazing buildings and ships with attractions such as @bristol, an interactive science centre.

Hope that helps.
