Am I the only one who thinks the AI in the new Splinter Cell: Conviction is ridiculously stupid? They hardly ever look up, they always run directly to your last known and just sit there like a doofus, and they continue to say "still no sign of target" even if you've been hiding for like, 5 minutes...

It takes most of the realism out of the gameplay. These guards are as dumb as a post I swear.

Seems to be shaping up to be a pretty shitty game.

This is the reason I don't play single player games, beating something like that doesn't feel good. It's the only problem I'm having with Stalker right now.

Edit: Anyone know a good mod that changes AI for the better for SoC? One that doesn't mean I'm restarting my game.

I only played the demo, but they where totally stupid and actually put me off buying the full game.

Stupid AIs are ok in some games but a stealth they need to be more smarter it makes things a little bit more fun

The stealth system was revamped to make it more accessible and less punishing. Its boring for most people to hide in a corner for 15 minutes waiting for them to give up so they just decided to make it easy and fast paced. I played the game at my friends house and holy shit I can vouch for this. The game loses its luster after you discover that its sometimes easier just to play it like a generic shooter. Hold left trigger to get behind cover hold right trigger and kill all your enemies with perfect accuracy even though you can't see them and they can't shoot back.

I haven't played but I've seen some reviews.
It seems Splinter Cell went the way of FFXIII (as in dumbing some elements down to please more casual gamers). I've heard they changed the excellent stealth gameplay to make into a more action oriented experience. Some, of course, will enjoy that and others will despise it.

The review I saw though did mention that the AI will "smarten up" as the game progresses. Like if you jump out a window and re-enter through another one, the enemy will later begin to check the windows. This is only an example of course.
Yeah, I'm hoping it gets better but the demo was enough to put me off of purchasing it at the full retail price.

Will never beat the thickness of Oblivion AI though. Yes my little NPC friends that have to survive for me to get mission bonuses, lava is healthy for your skin so you must run into it at every opportunity in chase of enemies. Yes Mr Random Kvatch Guard No.3 throwing yourself in front of the nord swinging a warhammer is an improvement on your survival chances and yes you have the right to complain when you get yourself clobbered.

I heard in an interview one of the developers/designers said that they made the AI really smart, and then dumbed it down to "playable" levels. Possibly on harder difficulties they are smarter.

I would hope so, I just don't like the stupidity of the AI's reactions after they spot you. Some of the stupidity I can live with, like standing with your back facing an open window.... because that's just fun...

but listening to the guards ramble on about how they can't find you when all you did was duck into a subway tunnel is just lame.

Friendly AI in general has always been pretty bad, to be honest. Especially when they WALK IN FRONT OF YOU AS YOU'RE SHOOTING.

Every time I play Battlefront 2 I am reminded how awful bad AI can really be.

Mass Effect's AI in tight quarters was the worst. both party members and enemies would just rush each other into a giant mosh-pit-esque rubbing elbows pile. The person with the shotgun won.

Some of the AI from Halo 3 was off too. it seems the UNSC marines just kinda joyride when you get in as a Wharthog gunner. It was kinda broken that they could generate ammo as they never ran out (with pinpoint accuracy too).

most of the time bad AI leads to some pretty great moments like messing with the big daddys in bioshock (lay explosives and tripwire all over and enjoy the show) or summoning high level creatures as a warlock in World of warcraft and then setting them free in a starter town (my friend wiped out goldshire with an infernal once, it was funny)
