Stupid things said about video games.

Some of my friends, despite calling themselves serious gamers and say they play games all the time, say that any game they haven't heard of is shit, or the graphics are shit, or it's going to fail because no one's heard of it, and sometimes one of my friends goes on for about 10 minutes saying how bad a game he's only just heard of is gonna be bad. The same friend also says that any game conference (eg. GDC) is sad etc. It's hard to find anyone to talk with about games seriously

They also only buy the big releases, or the ones that have had a lot of attention, and they always just rush through the singleplayer mode without actually looking at the world around them that has (often) been carefully crafted and detailed to perfection. It makes me sad sometimes :'(

Oh, and one time one of my friends said that you could do more things with a console controller, and that aiming was more accurate and faster.

I hope your friend passes a painful kidney stone. As for the person that makes the dumbes comments, it's probably my mom " Ooh! Video games make you violent! Ooh!".

I don't know what the general opinion is on this site about this, but here it goes.

My friend just told me today that the shooting mechanism in MGS3 (where you have to hold/press/tap square) was fantastic...

Like I said, I don't know what anyone else thinks about it, but I thought it was horrible.

8. I'm an expert on Final Fantasy games, and I think 9 and 12 are the two best games of the series.

Eh that one isn't too bad. Everyone has their own favourite FF games for completely different reasons. Claiming to be an expert on the series as an attempt to make an opinion more valid is a bit silly though, by that he probably just meant that he'd played most of them.

The Wii doesn't have any good games.

The Wii is just casual games.

Mario and Zelda aren't creative because they use the same characters.

I like this new idea; therefore, it's innovative. I don't like this new idea; therefore, it's a gimmick.

Games aren't art / art is nothing but pretentious symbolism.

No idea if this counts, but I was in a supermarket the other day with my mother: I was looking around the games section, and she wanders over, looks over at a copy of Ghost Recon on the shelf, and says to me "Ghost Raccoon? What's that?" I laughed my ass off.

I don't see the problem here. If your violent and lazy, you probably won't feel like killing anyone.

Let's see...my mom calls my 360 the "Netflix machine" and one my step-mom would always throw in my face was "How come you can (do something in a game), but can't (do something I don't give a shit about)."

Of course, everyone entitled to their opinion. But anyone who has listed those two very different games as their top two, usually later admits to haven't played all the games in the series --thus making their claim of being an expert on the series even sillier than it already is.

Perhaps I'm wrong in making that general assumption. If there is anyone out there that ranks those two as the best and have played the entire series, let them message me. I'd like to ask them where do their hopes and dreams come from and where do they go?

I was once talking to a mate, and since I play old games I was talking about them, he then said that "they were sad" I told him that "just because they don't look absolutly fantastic and 3D doesn't mean they aren't good, that's like not touching your old xbox or PS2 because they're old." He told me that even the PS2 and xbox were sad. I wanted to punch him out so hard.

Another mate was playing games on his laptop, so I decided to start playing games on my laptop, my choise was DOOM 3 he asked what I was playing. "DOOM 3 you should try it." "Nah, the graphics don't look that good." I look at what he was playing. The first Halo, I wanted to point out how stupid what he said was but I knew he wouldn't care.

Any day that Im in a bad mood my parents blame video games and that I shouldn't have played that day. This happens various times, including lapses of time where I dont play video games.

Nothing personalaly said to me, but more the general thought of games, that they are equal if not superior to films, some border on pure art. Then there are the idiots who think that it is glorified gore, or sex, while true for some *cough* Dukenukemforever *cough* it is not for all.

At work or at school when I openly talk about my love for gaming, I always talk about the stories and the universes that they have, some people just go, or yeah, in between shooting people or blowing them up? It just drives me crazy when people dismiss video games as a juvenile form of entertainment where all you do is shoot people. Especially considering the fact that my most played games recently have been LA Noire and Portal 2.
