That is beautiful. So much love for your dad there :)

OT:
A lot of these things people are saying seem slightly petty to me. Who's expecting their parents to know exactly what console they're playing and how each individual game works?

My mum has a lovely habit of asking me to pause games that can't be, I just explain it to her. I definitely don't expect her to know that the one particular game I'm playing is online and therefore cannot be paused, when most of the others she's seen me play throughout my formative years have had the feature to pause.

Plus, I don't get annoyed just because she can't tell the difference between my PS3 or 360.

I just find it nice when my parents do understand what I'm doing! (once in a blue moon)

My mother insists that games are brain rotting, despite the fact she spends large portions of her time playing casual games, that and the fact she has outright told me that my grades are better than hers were...

Because gaming isn't a nice hobby, unlike watching people kicking around a ball now is it?
Completely offtopic, but your avatar is the best thing ever. Which is all I have to say in this thread, since I thankfully have little experience with stupid things said about games.
Why thank you good sir.

"Mindless killing games."

True, but if everything was stripped down to that then it wouldn't be valued would it?
I'm sorry, I don't really have anything to add to this thread...

...but you have the must beautiful avatar in the whole world. O_O

When pro-level commentators for street fighter 4 call (for example) Fei Long's Flame Kick "DP."

I mean ...
The inputs are in the opposite direction, and you press a kick instead of a punch.
Its alternately Shienkyaku or Flame Kick, neither of which includes a D or a P.

How the hell is it a dragon punch?
Might as well be calling (boxer) Balrog's headbutt a DP .. why don't they do that?

The worst offender for stupid statements relating to games would have to be any time someone (usually a kid) tries to hurl insults around the lines of nerd, geek, freak, weirdo or no-life at me for doing better than them, refusing to cheat/boost or for being able to talk about the game I'm playing with a level of maturity and understanding.

Allow me to clarify this, I get called a freak with no social life for playing a video game by someone who is playing exactly the same video game with me.

If only you were playing Minecraft...that would be an accurate statement. What game were you playing?

Nintendo does nothing but rehash the same games.

Motion controls are a gimmick.

Touch screens are a gimmick.

I'm not sure if this had been said yet but something my relatives always ask, no matter what genre of game I am playing, is "What level are you up to"?

I try to explain to them that not all games work on the level system but judging by the look on their face they either don't get it/don't care.

We don't talk about gaming much...
Even if you don't like it, make him watch the trailer for MW2.
Would that help or have you tried it?

My father always without a doubt will walk into my room and proclaim the game I am playing be it Mario Galaxy or Call Of Duty, to look exactly like pacman.

He's already seen me playing Modern Warfare 2...

...he thought it was horrifically brutal.

Every time I wish to refer to my DS in the presence of my parents, I have to call it a "Nintendo DS" because they are UNABLE TO GRASP the idea that those two letters can refer to it. I wouldn't mind too much, except I now do it when talking to friends and they just think I'm being weird and trademarky.

"Portal 2 is the best game ever!"

Might just well replace Portal 2 with any other game that got hyped to the brim. I'm not saying that it isn't good. I haven't even played it. But I sincerely doubt that it's the best game ever. Because that title goes to SSBB. And Spore. And "Call of Honor: Modern Black Ops of World War II in Vietnam against Russian Al Quaeda Terrorists...3"

You get my point?

A person who claims to be a gamer said "I love Duke nukem and I am deffo getting the next one (blah blah blah) there has only been one other Duke Nukem game and thats Duke Nukem 3D".

I just burst out laughing, saying "no there hasn't, there are loads of them".

my mum calls Kinect "kinects". She saw the dead rising 2 advert where he's in a diner uniform riding a pink tricycle and she says "that's just ridiculous"
