Why?
Why do some games restrict what we can and cannot do? And even worse, why do others dangle metaphorical candy in front of us that we just can't have?
Whats this thread's motivation?
GTA IV, more specifically TLaD...
A little before the expansion came out, Rockstar's website put up the new vehicles that we would receive...
One of them was a Tow Truck, and the description read...
"While not exactly a speedy escape vehicle, the Towtruck does have it's own unique benefits"
Now let's add one and one. What does that equal? Two? Wrong! Because after the game was released and people rushed to find the new vehicle and start causing mayham, they realised that the tow truck could not tow... WHAT? Why even have a tow truck in the game in the first place?
I'll tell you why. It's featured in one mission. Yes, one. You get to tow a car in it too! Hooray! So why can't you do it outside of the mission? NOBODY KNOWS!!! It's not even that hard to script! Mind you, I've done my research...
Many GTA fans were pissed off, but nobody was going to boycott the came because of this...
The same happened in the next expansion, TBoGT...
In the trailers we saw a huge helicopter lifting up a subway car. But this time, everyone knew that it wasn't going to be availible to dick around with, because GTA IV has serious limitations to what you can and cannot do, and it's a huge letdown seeing as San Andreas expanded the horizon from III and Vice City, making it so wide that nobody knew what IV would hold before it was released...
Big letdowns were had...
But that's about it. GTA is still a great game...
Anyway, I'm itching to hear stories like this about other games, so get to it.

In pokemon HGSS,you can't fly directly from Kanto to Johto. There's no pupose to it, it only makes travelling more inconvenient and annoying.
Im jak 2 i spent a ridiculous amount of the missions wishing i had the peacemaker.when i finally got it, i only had an actual use for it twice.

This is why I should really write down my thoughts, I could probably compose a whole humerous little article on this because I know I've thought of stupid anomolies of this sort in games all the time but I can't for the life of me think of even one.

Wrong actually. Fly to Elite 4. Fly to whichever side you want. Done.

In Bad Company series, the game boasts you can destroy everything. Not true. You can only destroy parts of walls and most of a roof. You can't destroy ceilings, floors, and certain walls or certain spots in walls.

As I said, you can't go directly from one region to another. I want to from blackthorn to cerulean, i have to go the elite four first. do you see a point to that?

Ok I'm not sure if this counts...

But I really wanted to kill the children in Fallout 3.

Yeah, they were all really annoying, rude and many were profane.

OT: In Final Fantasy X-2, I really wanted to control the Blitzball characters. Sadly, I couldn't and went back to X.

You can't kill children in Fallout 3 because the ESRB would have eaten Bethesda alive. Incidentally, this is why there were no children in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.

Maybe if bethesda didn't make all the children obnoxious brats we wouldn't want to kill them in the first place, you hear that bethesda?

I will never understand why the gaming world can't come to an agreement about what is destructible by what amount of force. If I can knock down a wall with my jeep, a tree better not get in my way.

They somewhat fixed that in the sequel. Destroy all the walls and building will come down.only counts for full constructed 2+ story buildings.

Trees are indestructible in GTA games...

Drugs, i want a future, but its fun as hell to watch my stoned friends do stupid shit.
Oh, so using drugs instantly means you are destined to spend your whole life as an unmotivated slacker with no prospects for a successful future? Don't be so naive.

OT: Kicking grenades in COD. You should have the choice, either kick them wildly away or, if you're feeling brave pick them up and aim them before throwing it back. Sick of having the fuckers explode in my hand!

It's so annoying.

Eh? I used the peacemaker in pretty much every fight after i got it, it destroyed entire encounters in 1 shot and there were normally sufficent crates around to restock the admitedly small ammo capacity. The Vulcan was the only gun in Jak 2 that seemed sort of pointless to me, there was nothing it could do the blaster couldn't easier and with less wasted shots.

Why can't I get too close but can't get too far behind. For one I have a freaking map which shows me there location and is this man or woman so good of a driver that they can see me clearly and still drive well. Also do they even know who I am? This is coming from many of those tail missions
