Fuck, Justin Marks again? Why do people keep giving this guy work?

He's also adapting Shadow of the Colossus.

Interviews suggest he's not totally inept, so I wouldn't worry too much about his involvement.
If that's so then he DESPERATELY needs to get something on his resume that can be associated with him which isn't COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY SHIT. 'Legend of Chun-Li' was an appalling dire farce that makes the original Street Fighter live-action movie look like Citizen Kane. The original Street Fighter was so bad it's good (Raul Julia was awesome), Legend of Chun Li was so bad it's horrible.

Because the way I see it at the moment, he's going to butcher Shadow of the Colossus (DEATH SENTENCE!) and then for an encore he'll turn this promising concept into an enormous pile of shit.

I thought they were making a movie out of the classic poem.

Then I was going to nervously joke "Get Mr. Poe's permission and I'm all over it!"

Mark Wahlberg! Oh, noes! He and his "badass" attitude is going to ruin everything... I hope for a younger star.

This seems pretty cool, and it's a promising scenario, but one thing. Why Mark Wallburger?

Why not just keep the actor they had for the short? No offense to Wahlberg, but I don't think he can rock a hoody like that guy did.

Its great to see ordinary folks making it big :))
I look forward to this movie!
Mark Wahlberg as the Raven....i cant say much about the guy....i had to go to imdb to check who he was. I remember him only from the departed and his role there wasnt very big....but i guess they didnt want a total newbie as the main star.

That was terrible. What was the plot? Dystopian future psychic power guy gets hunted down by mindlessly evil regime that rules from the sky?
With the cheesy Dragonball-Z style powerup at the end (minus the bulging muscles and spiky blonde hair) and the obligatory "WHY?!" from the main character as he's hunted down by what looked like x-wing-inspired droid fighters, I just couldn't take this seriously.

Give funding to something with either plot or the promise of good action, please. Ugh.

Adapting Street Fighter, or most any video game franchise, for a major motion picture sounds like roughly the ninth circle of hell for any aspiring writer. We have no idea what sort of "requests" were put upon the script; could be Marks had a very interesting take on the property that was ultimately swept aside by the demands of producers. It's not exactly a writer's medium anymore - see: astounding success of countless poorly-written films every fucking year.

Aside 'Street Fighter', Marks has written three shorts. He doesn't have anything resembling a decisive resume at this point in time. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt based on his interviews. Granted, there's a chasm of difference between saying all the right things and actually doing some of them, and I'll be first in line to rip him apart when/if these movies suck. But, at this point, budget has more to do with the potential success of these projects than anything else.

Inclined to agree. High-concept, low content, poorly executed.

Am I the only one reminded of Cole from Infamous? I know that his powers are supposed to be psychic, but all that I could see looked slightly electricity based, such as using magnetism to fling the trash.

Still, looks intesting at least.

I don't even know where to start with you. It's a six-minute short film made on a small budget, and you expect complex explanations of character motivation (Hell, reading the blurb is enough to tell you why they're being "mindlessly evil": The guy's capable of blowing shit up with his mind, and he seems quite willing to do it whenever he feels the need to. He's basically a potential terrorist who doesn't need materials to cause havoc. I'd imprison him too.), as well as good special effects and acting. It's the sort of nitpicking I dislike quite intensely.

You are not a film critic. You just think it's clever to point out that some things are unoriginal. There's nothing new under the sun, something we're all well aware of. We don't need to be reminded of that.

Those robots require a drastic redesign, but otherwise I'm interested.

At first I thought this was about them somehow making Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven into a film. I am glad they are not doing that because it would most likely be butchered.

They really want to give the writing to the person who wrote Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-LI? That is just asking for the film to be bad.

Well the short is pretty bad in my opinion. A guy running without a given reason in an outfit that is the opposite of inconspicuous, trying to escape robots with advanced technology and artificial intelligence that cant hit a target at 10 meters with two canons, while cliched nonsense is coming from the sky in the form of lines like suspect is considered armed and dangerous, oh god. And he's probably running because he tried to save his girlfriend or wife from the ruthless government.

I hope the actual feature film overcomes the shortages of presenting a story in 6 minutes, but im not terribly optimistic as even the basic premise is already seen dozens of times.

Most dubious line of the entire article!
