So I'm at work, and I have to call a guy to help us do some wiring or something.

So I do! I get his answering machine. No problem, right?

Well I proceed to leave the most convoluted message, filled with 'uhh' and 'soo' and mistakes and I bumble through the darn thing and hang up. I then process to smack my forehead.

The problem is I'm not normally inarticulate. I work at a radio station! I do commercials reads, I go on air, and I've done some public speaking! No problem. But answering machines seem to be the bane of my normally smooth verbal deliveries. I've even AVOIDED leaving messages because I know I'll sound like a dork.

So my question is: Does anyone else have this problem?
Or am I the goose in a room of ducks?

You are not alone, I tend to trip over my words all the time when leaving a message. Though I tend to trip over my words when I'm talking in general, but voicemail is worse than most times.

I just can't use phones. Full stop. And not in the old people can't use internet way, I mean I just can't talk to people normally over the phone.

I too am horrible with answering machines. I always manage to say the same thing many different ways, including saying goodbye to the answering machine.

Meh, I stumble with my wording more than often when I'm talking. Friends, strangers, answering machines, doesn't matter. I just need to slow the hell down sometime, that might work.

I talk perfectly normally most of the time, but messages are the most difficult thing in the world to me. I guess I just don't leave them often enough?

Maybe! We need to do some 'practice' messages.
Message drills, if you will.
