Since yahtzee makes a lot of gamers come to this forum i noticed that the gaming forum is pretty busy. Would a split be a good thing for this forum? I was thinking:

Hardware & games general
Action, adventure & platform games
Shooters
Role playing games
Strategy games
Simulation, sports and racing games
Gaming: Problems and questions

Not really, as a lot of threads cover so many different types, and it would make things overly complicated with there being no need for it.

No, I hate that about most other forums. It just means more pages to load and dividing the community more. I'm not a grand shooter fan, so people wouldn't even know I exist. the community would be very divided.

Not to mention, the gaming forum is to talk about games in general, like trends and stuff. Sure we get a lot of individual game threads, but it still there.

Damn that was a big run on sentence.

... although it might stop those annoying people who go on forums like "What if steam didn't exist?" (example off the top of my head) and post "I don't use steam" and then leave.

I still don't understand why people find that annoying.

When someone asks you if have a dog, but you don't; do you just stand there in silence?

I mean, I don't do it, I try to do something a bit more creative. But still, on things like Anime threads I go "I dislike Anime, its not my cup of tea" or something. I mean, its just so people can know that about me.

Like when someone posts something about the PS3, and someone else says Sorry I have Xbox, its no big deal.

But I digress.

It's not really like somebody asking you if you have a dog, it's like you seeing a poster for a dog owners discussion then you turning up and saying "Hi there, I don't have a dog, I'm just here for the coffee and biscuits." Sure, if your anime thread was "Do you like/watch anime?" then it's fair, but if it's "I didn't get this one bit in Deathnote..." I suspect you wouldn't post.

It's just pointless is all I'm saying, it's not even a "witty" one-liner.

I don't mean to flame you, but if you need to make everyone aware of your opinion on common things why not just put it in your profile and save your opinion about something for when it is directly asked for?

I don't like Mario at all but I don't open up every mario thread I see and post "I don't like Mario" and leave again... It does absolutely nothing good for a discussion. If the OP had said "Do you like Mario?" then go for it.

OT: I think the site is big enough to warrant a few more sub-forums for advice/tech issue threads, music threads and film threads. This would greatly help the situation over in off-topic at the moment...

No its completely understandable. I mean, I don't do it often, but when I do stumble into an anime thread, I'll talk about my dislike for it. Admittedly more than Four words and stuff.

But the thing is, I mean, is posting really all that serious. You mention how its pointless, but isn't that a discussion starter?

I see where your coming from, and I would find it annoying if someone did that all the time, but like on Steam threads I declare my never ending hatred of Digital Distribution. Thats a good conversation starter.

OT: I guess thats what the user groups are for.

I would think walking into a hypothetical thread discussing steam's downloading times and declaring your hatred for digital downloading is nothing more than flamebaiting. There's enough people here who go around looking for an excuse to start an argument over nothing without putting a nice piece of flambait in front of them to start them off...

I enjoy a healthy debate as much as anyone but derailing someones thread just to get your opinion across is just rude... (Irony noted)

I'm not saying your not entitled to your opinion or your right to distribute it. But you don't have excerise that right all the time, especially when it comes across as completely irrelavent. That's what people get annoyed about.

Yes, but shouldn't this belong in gaming forum :D
I think it should be in the forum where we are allowed to make suggestion on how to improve the site and tell of bugs we found.

We need one of those as well :)
