That part's not conspiracy. Yellowstone is the top of a caldera, and it has a bulge, etc, this is discussed in serious quarters - it does threaten.
That's covered in the post you're quoting:

While it's true Yellowstone's on top of a caldera,

2012 also gets referred to as a conspiracy. Seemingly there's also menat to be a planet from outside our solar system heading our way which could spell the end for our home planet. That's been called a conspiracy too.

By that I mean, isn't it funny how people seemed so keen to jump in here and rat on the OP for seemingly not knowing the meaning of the word "conspiracy" that they likely failed to actually read the rest of the topic where they would have seen that this fact had already been stated a dozen times already and acknowledged by the OP.

I might even go so far to say it's some kind of conspiracy! Though really, people will look for (and find) conspiracies everywhere:

I don't know whether to laugh or cry while watching this one.

Laugh so hard you cry, that was the most contrived attempt at a conspiracy I've ever seen.

OT: One of my coworkers is a huge doomsday/conspiracy theory nut and was all gung ho on the comet killing us all (or 2012, or some other comet or the poles reversing, somehow he believes them all). The conspiracy comes in when he says there is actually a second comet on the tail of Elenin that will hit us. Course thats also a pretty stupid conspiracy theory since the evidence he has so far show us is actually two pictures next to each other made to look like one...

Of course! Every character in the Simpsons has hands! And they all want to be rockstars! Some even admire Winston Churchill! How did I not see it before? These are all traditions of the Illuminati, right?

This game sounds rad! Rad! Rad, I say! Will there be multiplayer...you know, with a team of ships trying to take out the comet before impact? That's rad!

Too boring, didn't read. Never even knew this was a thing. Also, I'm with everyone else on the whole "lern 2 dictionary, OP" bandwagon.

I don't care if you're "quoting Yahoo". You put it in the thread title. Not Yahoo, you.

One should know the difference.

Edit: Yeesh, I forgot how cranky people get when you say you didn't read something. Let me clarify. My thought process went something like this:

"Sure, doomsday. Yet another giant object in space that's going to hit us... eventually. Probably long after our species has gone extinct. Don't see why this is thread-worthy. I'm going to stop reading now, and comment on the only thing of any interest in this post: the fact that certain people need to learn what 'conspiracy' means, in order to avoid creating posts with misleading names. Here I was thinking Buzz Aldrin punched another moon landing denier in the face, or something; now that is something I would have liked to hear about. But this? This is pointless and dumb."

Y'all happy now? Gonna quit quoting me and calling me a douche? Or did I just make it worse?

Remember back to the craze of people claiming that Earth was going to fall to the comet, Elenin? Well, neither do I, but guess what, they were wrong.
Elenin will make its closest aproach to Earth on a speculative date of October 16th.... If any is left, of course. How close is about 22. million miles. What will rain down will be a small amount of debris instead of a largely intact comet. [sub] read down below for why.[/sub] And its leftovers AFTER THAT will return in 12 million years or so.

Plenty of theories about how this wimpy little comet could wipe us out is quite laughable. The comet itself was quite small, and wasn't even all that bright. These words can be used to describe all conspiracy theorists, but none the less.

1. It most likely lost a lot of mass from just space travel, along with its close encounter with the sun of September 10th. Even stepping as far as to have to deal with gigantic solar storm in August.

This simply means that we avoided a .0000001% chance of armagedon on a hundred million scale.

1. A conspiracy is when a group of people secretly work together for a nefarious scheme. Not when morons think we are doomed.
2. The escapist forums have different sections for posting different things. You posted this in the GAMING discussion when it should have been in the OFF-TOPIC discussion.
3. If you didn't mean to use the word conspiracy, simply edit it out of your posts so that you don't look like a tard.
4. You look stupider than the nut jobs you tried to make fun of.
5. We don't use yahoo for reliable info (I don't personally).

I would say you are mixing Conspiracy with Doomsaying... one sees plots and schemes in everything, the other sees the end in and of everything.

Now if the Comet was linked to a scheme of a hardcore anime religious clan bent on destroying the world so they can download all the anime without some goverment snitch on thier case, or corperate stooge claiming every episode of every decent anime as soon as it looks to be popular... that would be conspiracy.
Comet landing all is over is doomsaying :p

I mean these captcha jobies ... ¬¬ shifty stuff, they are actually goverment code spiders that will track your net usage, and entering the captcha is agreeing to allow the code to snoop.

Read my earlier comments, blame yahoo, I was quoting their words for this news report, bloody hell people, I have a yellow pic, so just look for that and read that message.
Don't blame Yahoo when you defended your incorrect use of the word. Change the title of the post to prevent the entire thread becoming "this isn't a conspiracy". Don't be as wrong as Yahoo.

I don't see how elien was a conspiracy. Anywho the earth is going to be here long after were dead. There is never ever going to be a apocalypses. Why? Because were always asking for one. Its like asking for world peace, not going to happen. Life is a cruel ***** that way.

Even then, there is contradiction. The idea of "blame Yahoo" belies the notion that the OP actually knew what it meant in the first place. nor was the OP in any way "quoting" the article.

I'm just saying, it's not so much "acknowledged" as "defended."

"Oh no, of course I know what it means. I was merely quoting the article, which was obviously erroneous, but blame Yahoo. I might know the definition but you can't expect me to apply it!"

Damn Yahoo, for conspiring against the OP!

Oh yeah, those "nutjobs" who thought a coment passing earth might hit us...Oooh, how crazy.
More accurately, those "nutjobs" who thought it was in fact, a rogue planet, or that it would destroy us through STELLAR ALIGNMENT. Most of the doomsday theories had nothing to do with hitting the planet.

In short: Cute, but no cigar.

Doctor Panties, Doctor Snakeman, glad you two could provide an expert opinion on this doomsday theory.

No, he doesn't. But I've never even heard of this. Disprove the Reptilians, then I'll listen.
The conspiracy was that, supposedly, the government was lying about elenin being a comet. One relatively successful astronomer kept saying that it was actually a Brown Dwarf star and that it's close call with Earth would degrade our orbit.

Of course, this never made any sense to begin with, however, it is interesting to note that several of the times it recently aligned with the earth and the sun, if not all of it's recent alignments coincide with powerful earthquakes. It is amusing that people believe they are related, there is absolutely no reason at all to believe they could be related, but it's an interesting coincidence.

Personally anything above "no chance at all" is too high a percentage for me, we are talking about Armageddon here after all.

Elenin had a close encounter with the sun on September 10th. Pieces of a comet break off. It takes roughly 8 minutes for the light from the sun to reach earth. Elenin was discovered December 10, 2010. 12 + 10 + 2010 = 2032. 2032 divided by 8 = 254. 254. Remember the 2. The 2 is important. 5 - 4 = 1. 10 + 1 = 11. September 11. 2 towers fell on September 11. It all adds up, man. It's all there.

I have a better idea, forget about them, (I'm guessing your referring to Truthism.com) because even if they do exist, so what? That's the point my mind keeps coming to.

I wish I could "like" Escapist comments...

And also "dislike", so I could show what I think of the huge amount of hostility in this thread towards the OP. He misused a term, why is this the new topic of the thread?
