it's pretty clear to me there huge numbers people in the world today suffering, whether that be from poverty, sickness, depression, or any other cause. and the thought of every single one of them pains me. so intend to do what i can. so, what should i do?

my original plan was to simply donate a large proportion of my income (which will hopefully be considerable if my life goes to plan) to those who need it. but i've been told that isn't the solution (but i have heard it said that $30 australian dollars can save a child's life. can someone explain that to me while i'm at it?). not only that, but poverty is not the only cause of suffering. so, i'm asking you for suggestions in how i can do my part in saving the world.
I think you deserve to be rewarded in some way for this; I like you.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I think communism would solve the problem; feel free to ask me anything about it and I'll answer. For now though, donating $30 is a great move which I think you deserve at least a pat on the back for, my good man.

Manufacture a virus that kills a third of the human population in a rush of endorphins. Some of us die smiling, and the rest have more space and food.

All for just 5 dollars a month!

Suffering can't just be solved.
It's part of the human condition.

Mainly due to the fact people cause suffering. As long as humans exist, so will suffering.
So? that doesn't make the value of a life any less. Saving a life is no less important even if there will always be more lives to save. A LIFE IS STILL A LIFE.

Well, since I am a selfish bastard
fuck you, from the depths of my heart. i know most people are like this, but it still makes me want to shoot something. preferably them.
You are a fool. Donating money does nothing, there is no solution. You can get as worked up as you like but without travelling there and building infrastructure nothing will be changed. You want to know why evemn then nothing will change? Its the people at the rockbottom that dig the trenches. Without a working class there will be no-one to do the shit jobs, you think the rich want equality?
1: i admitted i was naive
2: the reason i'm asking is because i don't know for sure what i should do
3: being working class and having zero food and no water are different things, and the latter can be solved.
4: you could at least sound like you cared about the fact there is "no solution"
5: i know the rich don't want equality, that's why i don't like them.

if only communism actually worked...

May I ask, what is your life plan?
i'm not entirely sure but my most likely direction will be to go to university and study to be an engineer (not sure what sort yet). i'm pretty passionate aout science so something in that are would be good, but i don't really know for sure.

as a side note, i think i may try writing books at some point in my life (most people who read my writing think it is good) and if they sell i reckon i'd donate the money they made.

really i'm just a naive kid who wants to do something but doesn't have a good enough grip on reality yet to know what, but hopefully i'll manage something.
I am glad you like enjineering because there is a lot going on for enjineering at the moment for people who want to help impovished countries. I am a researcher here in Japan, my field is linguistics, which is actually pretty usless at times, but I live with other researchers who are trying to improve people`s lives by researching in various fields.

Just to name a few, one enjineer is working on a system to help legless people walk, another is researching into solar power and another into alternative fields.

There is all kind of research going on in the world. But to get into it, you need a degree first. So, keep up the hard work. Is there a particular field of enjineering that you want to go into?

Bear in mind, researchers are very poorly paid though, but that is not the point...unless you invent something really brilliant that is.

Wait till these moronic poor people wake up and realise the only way forward is good old-fashioned capitalism.
Not a fair comment, Capitalism and dictatorship are the only regimes that have been allowed to truly exist, both work, lets not rule out options we havent explored. Besides capitalism hates the poor.
Hardly. The current government of South Africa is democratically elected, and yet it leans more and more towards the inferiority that is socialist economics. The simple fact of the matter is that Africa, and other poor countries, do not have economies strong and developed enough to sustain socialist economies. Hell, Britain can barely maintain them, and we're the 6th largest economy in the world.

And capitalism is an economic theory, dictatorship political. There have been democratically-elected socialist governments, much as there have been dictatorial capitalisms. The simple fact is that the more freedom your economy has, the faster it grows.
