15 pounds, man i guess i need more!!!Michael_McCloud said:That's not the half of it. If you can eat fifteen pounds of chocolate and live, you have a slight chance of becoming an actual furry.Fat Man Spoon said:You have a TAIL?!Kalas92 said:So that explains the tail.
Must. Eat. MORE SUGAR!
*ring* Hello, Hershey? I want to place a bulk order.
ZOMG A COUPLE OF WEEKS THAT'S SO LONG!!!!!!1!!!Eating a single chocolate bar might cause harmful genetic changes or mutations that could have serious effects on your DNA, changes that could last for up to a couple of weeks.
Well in that case they are not guilty of fear-mongering, they are guilty for stating the obivous. Don't these people have better things to do, like get a cure for cancer?Sightless Wisdom said:For those of you who heard the word mutation and thought third arm/eye/leg/head(yeah third not second), you've been playing too much fallout. It's refering to genetic weaknesess to diseases like diabetes. It's somwhat true, it really just means: If you shove sugar down your throat for twenty years of your life, then have a kid, he might have diabetes. But we already knew this...
End world hunger? Are you mad? Then everyone will grow old!dubious_wolf said:uhhh did you know eating ages/kills you? yep sure enough eating food will cause you to age so if you want to stay young don't eat. simple.
You see your body produces these molecules which humans have appropriately named free radicals. these molecules are produced when the mitochondrion in your cells produce ATP energy molecules from sucrose molecules. Free radicals are basically Oxygen atoms with too few electrons, if your remember any old basic chemistry class you would know that atoms seek equilibrium between the number of electrons protons and neutrons. When these free radicals are released into a cell they latch on and steal electrons from other molecules making them unstable. This process can cause a chain reaction that can rip cells to pieces. Then those destroyed cells need to be replaced, so other cells divide to fill in for the dead cell, this causes the cells to age.
Now how does this tie into the current discussion? well these free radicals can come into contact with DNA which is a molecular structure which is delicate and highly susceptible to being destroyed by free radicals. Thus technically by definition any piece of destroyed or altered DNA is a mutation... So eating sugar = mutations...
yeah most of the scientific world had known this fact for a while.
so why don't we stop trying to scare the shit out of people, and focus on something important like how to end world hunger?
awe shit you're right... well that just means ill have to become a doctor and buy shares in several big pharmaceutical companies. then i can treat all the old peoples. I'll be rich!!!martin said:End world hunger? Are you mad? Then everyone will grow old!
Don't do that! You need to help me develop a new form a sustanance that doesn't age people! Two solutions, we could kill them so they don't have the time to age. Or convert the entire population to energy and laugh?dubious_wolf said:awe shit you're right... well that just means ill have to become a doctor and buy shares in several big pharmaceutical companies. then i can treat all the old peoples. Well I think you need to check your definition of "mutation"martin said:Why is every change in a contemporary human physical form always a mutation? Do we see ourselves as THAT perfect that any change ever has to be a mutation.? Even in our media like with the X-men, they get extraordinary powers making them better than humans but are they are mutants. However, in this particular case something that lowers an immune system strikes me as a de-evolution. Now, knowing that Australia now has the most over weight people in relation to its population it could be an elaborate move of propaganda to actually help benefit the people by using words with such stigma as mutation.
