I've basically played Skyrim to death (until DLC and the Creation Kit comes out) and I'm bored of it. Also, I bought Oblivion: Deluxe Edition during the summer and once I played it for a short time, I shelved it due to the sheer ugliness of the character creation, the leveling system, the lackluster story from what little I played, and the dull environment. I cannot stress enough that I bought this a while before Skyrim was available.

What mods would anyone who played (and optionally, modded to hell) Oblivion suggest?

There are a few moods that overhaul the games leveling system, OOO and CUO are the two I'd recommend. There's also the elder council which overhauls the imperial palace and adds a joinable legion faction and it's own quest line. kvatch Rising is also a really good one, it slowly rebuilds Kvatch over the course of the game and adds plenty of new quests once the city is rebuilt. Natural environments should help liven up the game world for you and qarl's texture pack 3 will add in high-res textures for just about everything in the game. If you also have Morrowind and it's expansions, you can install Morrowblivion which adds everything from Morrowind to Oblivion. Personally I prefer it over the original. Most of this stuff can be found of either TESNexus or Fileplanet.

OOO (complete overhaul) and KCAS (a much better leveling system) are two I could not do without.

The rest were optional.
