committing suicide is a cowardly act.
only those who are emotionally weak and those who do not trust in themselves take such an extreme step.
one must face the difficulties..n take up the challenges.
running away from solution has never been the solution.
i condemn this act.

You shouldn't. Work through your problems, if they are of the kind that can be (not being terminal illness, etc.).

Ah yes, another scorching hot topic. Whats with all the potential explosive topics these days?

Suicide depends entirely on situation and if you can get yourself out of it. Terminal Illness etc, I'm all for it, hell I'll HELP.

Depression however, they can down right get over it in various ways so those people are simply pansies.

those are two far ends of the spectrum. If your life has quite frankly crumbled round your ears, hundreds of thousands in debt, spouse took everything, family and friends hate you, in jail etc etc. that could be cause for doing it since you've made a right sodding mess of your life have'nt you?

Suicide should be legalised and assisted; these people are only drains on society and their goal will ensure their own as well as the tax payer's happiness. Sure it will hurt families but as long as you are over 18 their responsibility for you is over and should respect whatever decision you make for your life. Them forcing you to live in pain and depression just so they can stay happy makes them far more selfish.

It's their life, they can end it if they want.

Sometimes, however, I do think that if it's going to be assisted, there should be some sort of procedure where you are recommended to a decent counselor beforehand. Or just asked to read this [http://www.cracked.com/article_15658_ten-minute-suicide-guide.html].

On the other hand, if they want to go out, they either have a reason or they're not very stable, and either way I'm not sure I should interfere even that much.

Just as an added wrinkle for those 'it's seflish' camp, what if they were a registered organ donor and took steps to keep them viable (like calling the cops right before the act). Sure they'd hurt their connections, but would help and potentially save the lives of one or more potentially more productive/objectively worthwhile persons.

A couple good ones:

When the weight of the world has got ya down,
and you want to end your life-
Bills to pay, a dead-end job,
and problems with the wife.

But don't throw in the towel,
'cause there's a place right down the block-
where you can drink your misery away.

At Flaming Moe's-
When liquor in a mug,
Can warm you like a hug-
And happiness is just a Flaming Moe away,
Happiness is just a Flaming Moe away....

-And my other favorite-

Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
"Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich?yes, richer than a king,
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

Really? Medical science has yet provided a way to "down right get over it", yet you have discovered "various ways". I would like you to expand upon your experience and methods for treating the clinical disease known as depression, and what successes you have had in curing those effected by it.

Never said there was a cure, i simply said they can get over it. As you statd medical science has provided SEVERAL ways to get over it.

Cake also works nicely.

Like a nice casket or urn? Sorry, I'm joking in poor taste and I know what you actually meant, it just the way you wrote that was hilarious. ;)
Yeah, that is pretty funny, actually, although others may not feel the same way.

One of my family members attempted suicide twice. He was suffering from mental illness at the time

Nowdays it is not something he would ever consider.

Im not sure of the figures but most attempts don't result in death, and personally I draw from that that the individual is more trying to make a statement or garner attention rather then end their life

No matter which way you cut it life is an amazing ride, why get off too soon?

Suicide isn't right people who fall back on suicide tend to only be thinking of themselves they don't see the long term emotional effects it can have on there family and friends not to mention the financial strain it puts on family i know that seems cold but some people really cant afford to die, I believe suicide to be a very selfish thing to do.

they should be able to if they want to but they should be offered help (in the forms of counselling psychiatry etc.) first.

I considered suicide for a while once waited in the dark by a motorway, almost ready to jump out at the next car that sped past. But I decided against it and came to the conclusion that I should just try and sort my life out and if it didn't work then I could just end it. Anyway to cut a long story short I took a fresh perspective on life, became more confident gained a lot of friends, got my body into shape, got a girlfriend and I should hopefully go to university soon so every thing's going nicely

My sister's best friend committed suicide and she was not in her right mind, I think if someone is disabled or very sick then they should be able to end their life as long as they're sane, if someone is not mentally healthy then they should get help for trying.

I think that a person should always intervene in the case of suicide. It's probably quite often the case that the person has no idea how much it'll affect their whole community. Euthanasia is OK, but a person should always work past suicide.
