Well, this seems to be my first real post that wasn't a reply to something.

Never thought I'd post an idea like this seeing as I feverishly shoot down other ones like a Zelda MMO, but there's a sort of massiveness about the Suikoden world that I think can somehow pull off a manner of Online persistence. More over, this is a sort of summary of a discussion I had with a good friend about a year back that seemingly came out of nowhere in the middle of a 3AM meal at Denny's.

Something along the lines of separate servers each with their own 108 True Runes (and countless lesser forms and imitations) for a set server population to fight over. Obviously, it instills a need for PvP but I'd like to think that there are great rewards and more PvE content to be accessed should you actually be a True Rune holder (As well as everyone gunning for you).

Obviously such a format would make the game non-canon or place it at the end of the entire series and this point in itself would dictate whether or not one would meet characters of past games.

Magic is, of course, based on Runes so that part explains itself if you know the past games. Stat building and melee combat styles we thought should be fully open to player style with the necessary limits in place to prevent someone becoming overpowered; the same going for Equipment requirements.

Combat flow, if Konami were lazy, would go along the typical MMO path of "Right-Click monster and watch" which is what I'm sure everyone would be content with. I wouldn't complain, but I wouldn't celebrate it either.

I'd personally like to see combat triggered as once you aggro the monster, your party members automatically move into formation for "stand in front and rear rows menu-driven combat" like the first two Suikoden games. Of course, everyone could choose their commands at their own leisure though and the attack phase begins when everyone puts in their choices.

Something like Final Fantasy's Active Time Battle would be needed for such a format though so the monsters will keep attacking to keep you all from just standing there. I'd rather see PvP done in Suiko-style as well with the Rock/Paper/Scissors kind of combat rather than real-time twitch-reaction fighting. But I'm old and like traditional RPGs... and young people seldom agree with me.

One final note on character creation. My friend and I discussed with much gusto and are firmly spiteful of MMO's that give you near-zero customization of your appearance. For MMO character customization done right, see City of Heroes and Champions Online. For customization done wrong, see Final Fantasy XI and every free Korean MMO on the internet.

Anyway, I wasn't intending to blow anyone's socks off with this, just putting it out there with my passive interest. Praise it, hate it, chop it up into little bits and sprinkle it over an ice-cream sundae, whatever works.

**Waits for those who actually would WANT a Zelda MMO to blam this idea**

Well, Suikoden DOES have like a hundred character PER GAME so thats not a problem... I don't know anything about the world though.
