A question for those that have the luxury of some free time during the summer and enjoy reading, which books did you pack for your vacations and what are your impressions from them?

I finally got around to reading some of Orson Scott Card's "Ender" series (Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead etc), just finished those first two books and am really impressed by them (plus I think I've discovered where J.K.Rowling copied about half of Harry Potter's concept from). Can't wait to get the rest too at some point. Also finished Odd Hours by Dean Koontz (fourth book with Odd Thomas as the "lead character") and found it very enjoyable as always, and was surprised that this was practically the first book in the series that ends with a cliffhanger (kind of). So...no disappointments yet, fortunately. What were your choices for the summer?

John Wynham's stuff, still hunting for the Chrysalids, reading the Midwich Cuckoos and have a huge stack of Sherlock Holmes to burrow through.

I always pack The Lord of the Rings, and I tend to take some Star Wars novels, particularly Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy. I'll also usually take some Warhammer, or Warhammer 40000 novels, like the Gaunt's Ghosts series - a two week holiday is more than enough time for me to get through the entire series.

Oh, and since I got the James Bond collection, I'll be taking those books with me as well when I go on holiday this year.

'The Way of Shadows' was a great summer choice (because it was quite long). It had a rickety start, but within 4 chapters it took a lot of effort to put it down. I'd recommend it if you're a fantasy fan or want something unique.
