I'm referring to the steam sale, of course.

What was the best game you picked up? (one you had the most fun with)

Hidden gem? (this can coincide with the previous question, one you picked up because it was dirt cheap and were surprised by how much fun you had with it)

anything you were hoping would drop a little lower in price? anything your disappointed that didn't go on some sort of sale? (or below 20%~)

also slightly off topic:

I can't remember who, but I remember some escapist users waiting for jade empire to go on sale..and funny enough, after the steam sales ended, it is 75% off as the daily deal, and good lord if you enjoy bioware games in the slightest, it is worth it ($ 3.74 !!)

so just wanted to add that tid bit in there, in case people weren't checking steam and wanted to get that.

my answers for the original discussion:

payday the heist: this game looked like fun always, but didn't really want to slug out 20 bucks for it, but man i'm kind of dissapointed I didn't pick it up sooner, it takes left 4 dead's style gameplay to a whole new bank robbery level of fun, I have a feeling i'm going to be sinking many hours into it in the coming months.

for the second answer, I'm going to say Just cause 2, I played the demo way back when it was coming out, and didn't really have that much fun with it, nor did it really get hyped all that much or anything, but I just got done playing the first mission, and besides the cheesy awful voice acting, the game is hella fun and I am very satisfied and surprised it isn't talked up more for it's gameplay mechanics and controls that basically allow you to do anything.

Hey I got Just 'cause 2. It's great fun. Only mild annoyance is that you can't have a parachute open while hooked to a car like in the first game. I loved swinging from car to car from my parachute like an upside down Spiderman.

Being a puzzle fan I got Qube and Quantum Conundrum. Qube was fun though fairly short. It was definitely worth it's discounted price. Actually it's quite cheap without the discount. Haven't played much of QC.

I've got Eufloria and From Dust downloaded but unplayed. I should have a look at them.

never played the first one (obviously by my original post) but that does sound like fun.

One thing i've come to realize...

FUCKIN HUGE MAP. sweet jesus, is there any sort of fast travel besides vehicles? i mean i love driving around and having fun blowing baddies away, but my goodness, 10 km feels alot more realistic than most games tend to have it as X.X

Yes. Chopper shopper. He will also take you to previously discovered locations.

Also there is at least one airport for you to steal planes from.

Best unexpected gem? Chantelise. Not that most of what I bought wasn't great (Universe Sandbox was a bit underwhelming, but that's the only one) but I came into Chantelise not knowing much about it beyond "it's a Japanese action RPG." It turned out to be quite a lot of fun.

Best game and also most unexpectedly good game was RAGE. Picked it up for $10, if I remember correctly, and even though it strains my laptop when loading new areas, it's a surprisingly fun game. The second I got the sniper rifle and the crossbow, the game went from "not bad" to "awesome," sneaking around picking off bandits and such. The compartmentalization of the enemies is disappointing, and the linearity as well, but for the price I'm happy with what I got.

Best game would go to Legend of Grimrock. So much fun! This was actually the one game I was hoping to get and only game I planned on getting if it did go on sale.

Hidden gem award would probably go to Saints Row 3. I bought the complete bundle which was less than $14. Definitely the biggest savings over-all.

Disappointed Max Payne 3 or Skyrim didn't drop lower. Already have Skyrim on PS3 so I'm not going to dish out too much for it on Steam. Came very close to buying the Bethesda bundle since it was only $10 more than Skyrim by itself, but I talked myself out of it since I've already got most the games and probably wouldn't play any of the extra stuff.

Trine 2, I was surprised at how beautiful that game looked. It had some challenging puzzles, good humour and fun combat

Dead island for like 10& some change.

The game is ok.. but I bought it as a showcase game for my tri monitor display and to that end it is phenomenal.

Driver: San Francisco. Bought the Deluxe Edition. That game is one of the best driving games in years. Loved it.

My hidden gem had to be at the last hour before the sale ended, I bought New Vegas: Ultimate Edition for $10, I think that was my best deal.
The one I've had the most fun with so far has to be either Bastion or Half-Life 2 (thank you to those who convinced me to get it.)

As far as the total list goes:
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Arma 2: Combined Operations (DayZ)
Bastion
Borderlands GOTY
Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition
Half-Life
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2: Episode 1
Half-Life 2: Episode 2
Prince of Persia Two Thrones
Prince of Persia Warrior Within
Star Wars Republic Commando

I think all < $40
I love Steam now.

Max 3 I can understand with how new it is. Skyrim I agree. I was expecting it to be at least 66 if not 75.% off because the game right now is 8 months old and still selling MSRP at full price? You can get copies of the console counterparts all day long at 30$, which is in essence what its discount sold it at.

Also I was a little concerned about "valve math"

I actually bought it as part of the Paradox bundle in the Amazon sale right before the Steam sale... but I steam activated it, and there was no Paradox bundle that good during the actual Steam sale, so whatever...

Crusader Kings II! So much craziness can go on in this thing.

Hidden Gem... I haven't played everything I picked up during the sale yet, but I've been amazed at how well designed Super Meat Boy is.

Eh, once you get a jet it's still pretty lengthy but it's much easier.
That game is amazing though, highly recommend it to ANYONE.

a deal well chosen! don't forget to check out the new vegas nexus for all the sweet sweet mods out there, not to mention the DLC for it is some of the best I've played..maybe ever?

I think all < $40
I love Steam now.
And steam loves you ;)

Steam definitely makes it a win win scenario for customers and game developers alike with these holiday sales

i was always curious about chantelise, I played recettear on a limb and ended up liking it, so i'll definitely have to pick it up next time there is some kind of sale for it.

Ehh, mods are the reason I deleted it off my cpu (main reason being I was bored to tears and had sworn of Obsidian) in the first place (which was a retail disc of course or else I wouldn't have rebought it on steam). They just f'd up my cpu to the point of hard factory reset :(

I think I'll be fine with all the DLC though :)

I'm more than willing to give it a second chance though, now since I heard that Obsidian will help co-develop Wasteland 2.

ah gotcha, well they ironed out a ton of the bugs and there are tons of random things that have probably been added since you last played it, so perhaps gander at it if you need to spice the game up a bit.

did you see the screenshot they released today? even in the super early stages it's looking quite nice imo

I spent about $160 during the entire sale, and probably picked up 20+ games.

Needless to say, I haven't had time to see which one is best.

Just Cause 2 for $3. Had it on the PS3 and dumped so many hours into it that I couldn't pass it up on the PC. Also got Borderlands GotY for $7.

Sonic Generations, has everything I hate about Sonic games but....

Dem fucking Classic levels, seriously they should just reboot the whole series.
The level design is so tight, yet challenging. Honestly I never though Sonic team cold create something that brilliant.

Now if only the furries writing the game stories could have an "accident".
