This thread mainly applies to people in High School (or people who can still remember High School): I go back to school in 2 days and I just realized that I have not yet read either of my two summer reading books, so I will probably just end up reading the Cliff Notes for both books and then half-ass writing the report on them both so I don't run out of time.

I feel pissed off at myself though because I had all summer do do this and I never remembered until now. Did anyone else ever do this or is it just me? And if you have, what's the worst trouble you've gotten into for it?

I used to do that, and I'd either look up the SparkNotes or just fail the test they had over it, no biggie.

Sort of happened to me: Read the books in a couple hours but I'm horrible at writing about them, so I didn't. Turns out nobody else did, either.

You have summer homework? You poor, poor sod.
Well, when you start taking AP classes your junior year, they start to give ridiculous amounts of homework. Even stuff over the summer.

I honestly don't know what AP classes are.

It stand for Advanced Placement. It's a step above honors. On a completely unrelated note, my ego is growing by the second. I must handle this *goes off to get shears*.

I'm guessing this is the American way of doing things.

I don't get summer homework, strictly speaking. But I usually establish projects for myself at the beginning of the summer, to get ahead during the school year (My sister, two years older than I am, went to the same school as me, so I know what all the assignment are already). Then I don't do them. No harm done for me, other than a little regret.

also, Classics studying over the summer is a *****. That's extracurricular, so I like to get ahead if it means studying for fun doesn't get in the way of studying for marks.

Yeah, how did you guess? It goes Essentials (stupid people), then Regular (regular people), then Honors ("smart" people a.k.a regular people who actually try) and then Advanced Placement (smart people).

Then again, this is the United States, and we are infamous for having pretty low education standards, so our "smart" people would probably be equivalent to your regular people.

I'm in the same boat.

Except I'm going back in a week, I have to read three books, do about thirty 'identify and state's, and start work on an essay for the end of the month.

No biggie. I did a summative last semester the day before my presentation and got 98%.

Are they super-difficult books? You might still have time to read them for realsies, yo, if you buckle down and get into it. I've been outta highschool for a decade now, but I always procrastinated like crazy, and then pulled it all together at the last minute with lotsa caffeine and elbow grease. Usually got at least a B+ with that method. It just might be possible to do it legit.

well I am no stranger to procrastination, too many counts to count, but up until now I could get away with it scot free and so I'm trying to adapt, but first: breakfast

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.

Although, to be fair, in my last year of high school I do remember reading the only novel in the curriculum before english classes started.

Well, maybe I'll just list the books and you can give me important "know this" tips on them.

"The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair
and
"Farewell to Arms" by Ernest Hemingway
