I was listening to a podcast (can't remember which one; listen to too many), and they were discussing how, despite being a terrible game, Superman Returns' city health bar was a decent aspect for a Superman game.
I started thinking to myself how other super hero games could make innovations with their gameplay and mechanics. And immediately I began to think of Spider-Man and how he would use an artificial web-shooter that he'd made himself. Bring that back into a non-film-adapted, comic book game.
Now, with that in mind, you can have him upgrade his shooters to not use up the webbing as quickly as you start out with, increase the time you hinder thugs and bad guys, etc. And as a nice touch, make the point of upgrade, or web replenishment, being wither his Aunt May's house in Queens or his apartment in the city.
Now since we're dealing with upgrades, I believe purchasing anything with EXP would make no sense with the shooter, in my opinion. Have him have to buy them with money he earns from doing his job: taking photographs for the Bugle.
Now, I know what you're thinking: Spider-Man 2's fixed-point picture taking. I thought about this, and I think it would be cool if you can set the camera wherever you like and depending on the angle, you take in more cash.
Now for combat, I'd say find a way to combine the combo system from SM2 and the yo-yo mechanic from Web of Shadows (that seemed more SM-like to me).
This is just my idea of what can be put into a Spider-Man game. If you agree, disagree or have any ideas of your own about other super heroes, post 'em. (All of my suggestions shouldn't be taken too seriously so as to prevent flame wars)
