Hello, I'm DarkRawen, and this is the recruitment thread for a very open-world superhero thread. It is so open-world that, in fact, I won't even be your GM. The idea is based on what became of another superhero RP (The Threshold Event) before it ended, which was basically a RP with pretty much complete character freedom, democratically based decisions, and fun interactions without a heavy plot. The idea is to let you, the player, have one or two superhero or villain characters, and let the characters do as the characters do. That said, antisocial behaviour won't be accepted, and nor will total anarchy. If someone has an issue with your post, it's expected that it's taken to heart, though criticism should always be careful and polite. Similarly, if you don't interact with other characters at all, that too will be an issue.
So, without further ado, I'll get to the more useful parts of this OP.
The setting is a slightly alternative version of our world, with the RP taking place in a modern day (think 2000-2009) city in the US. It's currently called "Neutropolis" -which might very well change because that's an utterly ridiculous name- and the city is relatively densely populated, but not to the point of being extremely crowded. It has quite a few super-powered individuals, some stronger than others. Even so, while super-powers are not that strange or mysterious anymore, it is still not that common, and most superheroes and villains keeps their powers hidden, only using them once they know their daily life identity is safe. It's a city with a mixed population, immigration is very common, and people come from all over the world. It has a rich and varied culture.
Basically, Neutropolis is a city that the players can build after their own need, adding locations and features as long as it's reasonable and accepted by the other players. It has NPCs heroes and villains, as well as PC characters.
As an example, I will put up my first of two character sheets:
Apart from me, both IFS and VuvuZelaMan are part of this, they'll submit at least one sheet each. Because of this, "Goo Power" (Both me and IFS will have a character with this) and "Shapeshifting" (Vuvuzela's character), are already taken. Any other power, as long as it's not OP or too dark -it's most likely going to be rather light-hearted, after all- , is acceptable if used correctly, though I'd steer away from mind-control/manipulation of PC characters, because no one is going to like that.
Finally, Rules:
- While none of the three of us are the GM, we do have a say when it comes to the sheets of this RP, and will judge them together.
- You can have one or two characters, though, if you do have two, it might be a good idea to make one villain and one hero, or something similar to that, for the sake of balance. If you're unsure of if you can handle two characters, make one to start with and see how it goes, you can always add a second one during the game.
- Rudeness isn't going to go over well in an RP like this, and being a jerk to others is only going to lead to disagreements. Please don't.
- Be creative. Nothing is going to happen if everyone sit around expecting plot to happen in this RP.
- Be aware of your grammar. It certainly doesn't need to be perfect, but people should be able to understand what you write without having to ask.
- The RP is most likely going to have a light-hearted tone, so if you're expecting a grimdark superhero RP, this isn't the one you want.
I think that's it for now. If there's anything you're wondering about, or want to comment on, please do. I may not be the GM, but I'm responsible for the thread, so I'll do my best to answer.
Also, note: As I'm not the only one behind this, this thread might change a little depending on what happens.

Age: Age of the character. If you're going with a more mysterious/alien character, the age they appear to be work as well.

As an example, I will put up my first of two character sheets:
Name: Frederick Rolls
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Appearance: Dark brown hair that's well kept and orderly, if a bit long in the neck. He has dark blue eyes, and slightly pale skin. He's about 5'9" and has a slender and small body. The most noticeable aspect of him would be the grin he tends to be wearing, and it can be seen in his eyes even when he's not actually smiling. He wears suits and is well-dressed most of the time. In court he wears a simple judge's robe and a colourful, often dark purple, bow-tie.
Personality: Frederick is a peculiar man. He's got a mischievous sense of humour, and can be described as sarcastic and wry because it amuses him to watch people get annoyed and confused. Even so, he's very professional and dedicated to his role as a judge, and will do his outermost to make a respectable and fair decision. Outside his job he's the type that goes from childish to mature very quickly. He is a nitpicker and likes to argue, despite his respect for the law, he's the first person to find and use the loopholes when he does need them, though he is certainly not corrupt, and will mostly use them for the benefits of others. He doesn't let personal life interfere with his work.
He enjoys sweets and tea, clever company and the theatre, though he'll be happy enough with one out of three. He's intelligent and thoroughly, though trying to talk him out of something or force him to do something might make him act childish or bored. Frederick is terribly stubborn as well, though he's a good person, and is not as selfish as he might seem.
Skills: Frederick knows a lot about the law, especially criminal law, as it is often his field of practice. He's born of German parents, so he knows German, as well as having picked up French as a youth. He's good with information, both gathering it and drawing conclusion from it, and can assess a situation without bias. He's got a decent voice, and used to take part in musicals when he was younger, even landing quite a few main roles, though it was a local thing. Occasionally, he plays the piano. Frederick is a decent baker, and better with a computer than most may think.
Weaknesses: Sometimes, his habit of judging fairly might be a little too neutral for a situation, and people tend to get offended by both this and his jokes. He's physically weak as well as a little short, so he's not much of a fighter. Frederick wouldn't admit it, but he's developed a fear of knives, though only in the hands of someone else.
Bio: Frederick was born in Neutropolis to a pair of recently immigrated Germans. He grew up in a fairly middle class home, with both parents working office jobs. He often had to take care of his younger sister, and while he spent that time teasing her and joking a lot, they grew up caring a lot for each other. Together, they attended piano lessons, her moving onto the violin and him taking extra classes singing, and joining a local theatre group. He doesn't remember just when it was he took an interest in law, but already in high school he knew what he was going to do, and started working hard for that purpose. His parents attention were divided between supporting their hard-working, and rather brilliant law-student, and the musically daughter, who would later go on to become known across the whole country. Eventually, he passed the bar exam, at the age of 25. He chose to work for the state.
4 years later, and he found himself being offered a position as a judge, and found himself in a good position. He worked his way up and quickly became respected despite his somewhat sarcastic tone at times. Everything was bliss, until 3 years ago, when he at age 31, was stabbed due to the harsh punishment given to a cult-leader with more than one screw loose. After a month in coma, he woke up, though he'd experienced something unbelievable. He had not only had an out of body experience, but it had been controlled, and better yet, he had made sure of it. Even more unbelievable, he was able to do it ever since that incident.
Since then, he's been more careful when walking the streets, having chosen to keep working as a judge -despite the jury aggravating him at times- and more so, he's been enjoying his life with an alter ego, the somewhat unusual hero named Specter.

Since then, he's been more careful when walking the streets, having chosen to keep working as a judge -despite the jury aggravating him at times- and more so, he's been enjoying his life with an alter ego, the somewhat unusual hero named Specter.
Alignment: Lawful good, though that's partly because he knows how to word things to make it more legal for him to do.
Alias: The Phantom of the Opera, sometimes simply Ghost or, his most preferable nickname, The Specter.
Alter Ego Appearance: The Specter has two forms. One is the form where he is still in his body, using his powers. It becomes white and see-through, with most features hard to make out. He will wear what he is currently wearing, as well as the tragedy and comedy masks, with the comedy mask usually in front of his face, and the other on the back of his head or the side.
When he leaves his body behind, however, he becomes more of a specter, with only his upper body showing, mostly having the appearance of a dense mist in the shape of a torso, arms, and head. His features are impossible to make out in this form, though the masks will still be easy to spot, having almost a substance compared to the rest. They will alternate more, depending on his mood, and appear to float rather than hang from his face.
Origin of Powers: He's not completely sure how he got his powers, but he believes it is connected to the time he was stabbed and ended up in a coma, as it was the first time he used those powers. Honestly, he thinks it might have something to do with the red liquid on the blade, and the odd symbols but he never had the chance to find out. (Witchcraft! Or rather, curse gone wrong (right?).)
Description of Powers: As there are two forms, one where he takes his body along, and one where he doesn't, the powers vary. If he does take it along, this makes him easier tired, and he can't use any other powers than the basic ones (passing through walls, going invisible, flying.) Like this, he can turn on and off his "interactions" with the real world, and touch stuff or pass through them at will, for individual body parts as well as his whole body.
If he leaves his body behind, however, he enter the Specter form. This enables him to use his powers a lot longer and gives him access to powers that would be impossible otherwise. His basic powers of flight and passing through things are permanent in this form, and doesn't cost any energy. As for other powers, making himself invisible becomes easier, and he can, technically, possess someone (NPC) for a very short amount of time, though he won't do this unless there's a need. If he touches an object, it becomes intangible like he is, thus becomes rather useless unless his objective is to bring it with him. Because of this, he can also use telekinesis in this form, and even if it's not the strongest, it packs a punch.
Weaknesses of Powers: Apart from his telekinesis, the Specter has no real fighting ability.
When he uses his powers while still in his body, he has to activate intangibility each time in order not to get affected by punches, which tends to get tiring quickly. His Specter form is more resistant, being mostly unaffected by physical attacks -though his form acts like smoke, and could, in theory, get pushed around by them- and being more vulnerable to attacks like fire and electricity, as well as freezing -though not frozen pieces of water- and so on. He can avoid attacks like these easily enough, though they tend to be hard to see coming.
Role in the Media and Public Eye: While Frederick is a hero, and has done heroic acts, the media still doesn't know just what to think. On one hand, it would appear that he's a good guy from his actions and statements, however, most people can't get over the fact that he appears to be a real ghost, haunting people. If nothing else, he's gotten used to it, and at times, it really amuses him to scare people, which is also a good way to catch someone off guard without actually physically harming someone. He'll often stay invisible while dealing with common people, however. No one knows that he is the Specter, though his sister has suspiscions. He avoids fighting, and simply seek to hinder the illegal activities of criminals, and get them to the courts so they can be tried for their crimes.
