I'm actually more interested to hear that there will be some more customization involved, it's a bit of a shame about the cross-play but I wasn't really looking out for that anyway personally.

I hope not.
Even if the concept seems cool competitive play will definitely find some sort of combination that completely breaks the game.

Personally I'd rather have 3 new characters than 5 sets of customizable options. But that's just me.

Did any Nintendo game ever support crossplay between console and handheld? I can't recall any. I'm seriously considering getting this for Megaman alone. I'm serious.

BOOM.
It had perfect cross gameplay. Even online people with the DS version could add friend codes of those with the Wii version and play together. Gameplay was unchanged for both version, no features added or removed to accommodate.

Other then that I can't really think of any....

There is one question lingering over all of this that i still want a god-damned answer to. Yes, Mega Man joining the cast is cool and all but....What about everyones favorite legendary soldier?

I don't care how inappropriate he was to the setting, it was a dream come true to see Snake in Brawl...and oddly specific given i remember saying to a friend about how awesome it would be to have Snake in a Smash Brothers game, making me wonder if Nintendo or Kojima were spying on me when i said that.

Cmon, i've finally got a character i love in that game..Don't take it away from me Nintendo...Please?

Wait, what? I thought cross-platform play was part the the reason for having both 3DS and WiiU versions of the game. Thought Nintendo was finally taking some ques from Sony with their console & handheld connectivity. I'm not too broken up about it, but it is a missed opportunity.

"Since each version of the game has completely different stages, cross-platform play wouldn't work"
This logic doesn't work for me. It's not like there had to be different stages in the WiiU and 3DS versions of the game. That was a design decision your team made, Sakurai. Cross-Platform play could have been possible, you should just be honest that it was never seriously considered during the planning stages of development.

Customizations, but keeping character uniqueness and not involving costume designs? That makes it not sound like a character creation thing, so I can't even guess. Maybe the abilities, maybe...

I dunno, maybe it's gonna be some kind of controllable stats thing? Maybe one player could play Mario with the power turned up, and have the mario tornado, while another could retain the FLUDD and boost speed?
I was thinking something similar with having different moves on characters that can be switched out so you can sorta have your preferences. Like with Pikachu's back air he spins in the current version but you could switch it out for the donkey kick from the original.

I do have a feeling Snake will return. Kojima loved the original Smash Bros., and he wanted Snake in Melee, but it was too late to put him in. I also think the fact that Snake was not in PSASBR (Raiden was instead) kind of hints to the fact that Snake is a Super Smash Bros. Exclusive character, and that he's coming back for more.
