As long as they don't introduce broken characters, all's well that ends well.

After all, Mr Game and Watch will overcome all opponents.

If you just take out the clones then you get more than three spaces opened up for new characters (four if you count Lucas).
True, but most of the characters who are called clones actually aren't.

Wolf, Luigi, Ike, Lucas and arguably Brawl's Falco are the main examples. Falco and Wolf have very similar special attacks, but their standard and smash attacks are all very different to Fox's, same with Lucas to Ness. Ike is very different to Marth, although they share some of their specials.

Dr. Mario and Ganondorf absolutely are, although I miss Dr. Mario. He was so strong and difficult to knock out, my favourite character to play as.

It doesn't really matter what they do with it, my friends will probably play it. We'll see what my thoughts on the game are when I get my hands on a controller. My opinion on the Smash Bros series hasn't changed: Melee is best.

Honestly if they don't vastly improve "Something" over the last game I might just skip this installment of Smash Bros. User created levels really needed a lot more effort behind it to be worth a crap. The story mode was not great. The challenge modes were not terrible but were also basically just retreads of the old one. If the roster is the same as brawl and these things are not really vastly improved on, I really see no reason to get it.

But now a quick list of things that would make this a Must Buy for me.
1: Zero from Megamam immediately makes this a Must Buy for me. I would love to see him in smash bros.
2: Reworked Final smash system so it's more like a super bar for each character so you can use final smashes more in single player modes.
3: Ridely from Metroid as a playable character. Maybe not full sized like he's in metroid, but I would be fine with a Charizard sized Ridely.
4: A story mode that doesn't suck for 12 hours. Seriously the story mode was NOT good.
5: More customization, even if they just let you use the sticker thing in other modes it would allow for more interesting game play and tactics. But what I'd really be hoping for is just a create a brawler mode. If they included this it would be a must buy for me. Just give me 5 open slots to create my own brawler and I'll buy this game for certain.
6: Including all the Fire emblem sub characters as one character but with different skins. This would be amazing and would allow fans to pick their favorite and play as them. Tho this might have to be a few different chars. a light medium and heavy, but I think you could compress this down into one character, who just has changeable modes like Pokemon trainer, or Zelda.
7: A Dramatic battle mode where you select one person to be like a boss character, and then have 2 or more people fighting them. This could be as simple as just having one person be giant, or just some other way to have them empowered the whole fight, but this would be a big selling point for me because the Handicap function in Brawl is just Bullshit and chips. It's no fun to play with and a waste. But a dramatic battle mode would be tons of fun.
8: Dungeon mode. A kinda story mode esque adventure but with a randomly generated dungeon to run around and explore with multiple levels and bosses. This IMO would be great, it doesn't even need to have a bunch of treasure to get. I'd just enjoy getting lost in it running around like a lunatic without a care in the world not even fully understanding my objective!
9: This is gonna be my last one and it's probably the bottom of the barrel. The others would be big selling points but this one barely makes the cut of a must buy for me. That is branching paths (That actually matter) in the adventure mode. I like choices and brawl had them, but they never mattered really. They sucked... so it'd be nice to have a story mode where they were better. On second thought no this one isn't good enough but i typed it up so i'ma just leave it here.

Why not include MegaMan, he started on Nintendo? Or how about Simon Belmont or someone from Castlevania, did Nintendo forget they started that series? I mean, include Snake but no Simon or Alucard? There's such an illustrious list of Nintendo characters that could have been utilized instead of just cloning existing characters.
I would ask the same question, but that all comes down to what companies have an agreement with Nintendo to use their characters. That's why Sonic and Snake were in Brawl. I doubt Capcom would let Megaman be used at all, given that Capcom has pretty much wiped their collective balls all over that franchise in every direction and corner, and Konami really has no idea what they're doing with Castlevania or any of their stable franchises. (See also, Silent Hill.)
Well lets not lose hope for Castlevania. I mean LoS was awesome. Los2 featured Alucard in the trailer so its probs gonna be awesome and Mirror of Fate is going back to basics, featuring Simon, Trevor and Alucard so its probably gonna be amazing too. Silent Hill was taken over by an American production company which is why they lost the subtle, pyschological horror and went more to american slasher flick, blood and scary monsters horror. And sigh, Megaman really isn't getting any love is he?

I'm perfectly fine if they keep the roster size the same but cut down on some of the clones and balance out some of the characters.

If they just use about the same number of characters, I'm ok with that, and it seems unlikely that they'll just use the same characters over and over, that would make the games grow stale.

Same number, different characters? I'm 100% behind that.

So, in short, they're saying that they've got no plans for anything new on the board.

When did this become Soul Calibur?

Well thats a change of direction for the series.

I hope making the game more balanced doesn't rid it of any fun!

Same number, different characters. Now this I can get behind!

As for the clones, really, get rid of 'em. If I don't like playing as Fox, I probably won't be playing as Wolf anytime soon. And the Landmaster gets cloned too? Really?

Travis Touchdown. Do it.
