There have always been two sorts of snags reached by game developers when making a game based on a beloved comic book character. One is the same snag that makes it so intriguing: The fans. The hungry, bloodthirsty fans who will call you out on your simplest mistake. The other is what to do with characters who are overpowered or GODS (Thor, Superman) SO, I was wondering, WWTGLD?

No wait, sorry.

Do you have any ideas for games featuring superheroes that wouldnt feel like you started in God Mode, but kept you feeling like you were in the book itself?

TGL= The Green Lantern, bee tee dubs.

I've personally always thought a game based on Robin's first year as a crime fighter under Batman's tutelage would be fun. Wouldn't need a tutorial, since the big guy would be teaching you the finer points as you went on, and the slow transition from "Hey, I'm punching a henchman dressed as a clown in a warehouse on the waterfront! This is so much fun! I'm in no real danger!" to "Holy god, that guy just shot me. I'm bleeding... This is for real. I could die." would be so cool.

Keeping Batman constantly in the dark, one step ahead of you, guiding you from the shadows, would really make you feel like you were there, just a kid in a costume, running across rooftops in Gotham.

Dude, Freedom Force. Both of the games in the Freedom Force series are great tactical strategy superhero games. The characters are based on 50s and 60s superheroes, but are not explicitly "Batman" or "Superman" so there is a lot of freedom in the storytelling and in what the characters do.

The characters are all really well balanced (well, some are better than others, but you won't just dominate a level with character X), and the superpowers are a whole mess of fun. There's also some RPG elements to it that make your characters feel more powerful over time, but never like they are "gods."

I guess this doesn't really answer your question, but I think the point is that you may have to look outside of licensed characters to get a great gaming experience with superheroes.

Web-head seems to get the best games.
Everything about Superman and Batman has sucked, the Hulk games were repetitive and got old fast, and the Iron Man game wasn't that good.
I wonder why.
I would like to see what would happen with a Thor game.
