The old friendly ones. But D.C. Comics heros only. Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, The Flash etc. Plus they could whoop any of the Watchmens asses. In my opinion.

EDIT: This has been going on for a while. Since the 90s at least. The maturing and darkening of comics has been a fairly common trend for 15 years minimum.
No. Mr. Manhattan would destroy Superman. Or Batman. Or any superhero in the DC or Marvel universe. He is literally indescribable and controls all of matter in space and time. Sorry, but that is unbeatable. He is a god.
Thats why i said "That i know of". i dont know who that is. all i know is that hes blue, naked, and in the watchmen.
Did you watch the movie?

I recently saw the movie "Watchmen" and I liked it. It clearly introduced a new vision about superheroes: a lot darker and bloodier. This stands in clear contrast with the superheroes from Marvel such as Spider Man that are more "child friendly". So what kind of superheroes do you prefer: the more mature ones from Watchmen or the old friendly ones form Marvel?
Not to sound like a dick, but Watchmen was written like 15 or more years ago or something like that. I don't have a copy of the book on hand to check the publishing date.

But have you read Spiderman recently? It's pretty fucked up. So was the whole Civil War deal. Comics haven't been an exclusively "child friendly" medium for the better part of decade now.
Wikipedia has the answer, First published 1986 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchmen]
That's what I thought, but didn't want to get it wrong and have a bunch of whack-job fan-boys chew me out over it.

I prefer a super hero that has no super powers but his human traits to get rid of villains that do have super powers. If only the was one... Oh yea Batman.

I would not write off the Watchmen cast as simply "mature superheroes". Watchmen (sort of, if you want to believe my interpretation which in no way has to be the correct one) parodied the whole genre, showing off superheroes in a different light, bordering on cynic. Basically the point I'm trying to make is that the Watchmen cast was not "cooler", closer to the exact opposite.

Again, not stating facts here ^^

As for the question itself. I enjoy most types, except the ones that try too hard loosing touch with what they really are. Kind of like making Lego Rock Band in an attempt to make the game appeal to younger audiences... 'cept the other way around... confusing?

I always did prefer the deeper comics. They have been about since I were a lad, even when I was young and blinkered I still held a deep resentment for the "all american" Superman comics. I only discovered Watchmen prior to the film release, but have to say that the darkness of the city was the making of it (IMO) they could conjure my imagination much easier, as I tend to struggle with the concept of Metropilis' and Spidermans New York

Nope. Not yet anyway. Might get the book if the movie's good enough.

While the Watchmen superheroes are definitely grittier, Marvel is catching up. The modern Captain America and Iron Man comics are quite good, and actually have human and not-so-kid-friendly characters.

First issue of Wolverine he slaughtered dozens of troops, a few issues later he was killing random dudes just out hunting deer.

Anyway I disliked Watchmen. Do not get me wrong, in itself it was okay but it made no fucking sense. It clearly said that the first ones were just ordinary cops who put on outfit, then what? Their kids put on outfits and suddenly get super powers? Super strength and speed. It just makes no bloody sense.

Anyway one of my favourite heroes is Jackie Estacado. A brutal bastard who happily slaughters anyone who gets in his way.
The Watchmen aren't Superheroes, with the exception of Dr. Manhatten they are Costumed Vigilantes and have no superpowers what so ever.

Ugh... I hate to burst your bubble but comic book characters have different incarnations... some dark and some not so. They are reinvented into different media and rewritten many times. For example, the 1960's batman series is much different from the "dark knight" movie.
