What's so super about super-soldiers anyway? I mean in most super-soldier type games the soldiers that are enhanced to be the ultimate fighting force are wiped out in their thousands by one guy. I think the investors would be within their right to ask what the fuck was going on if they ask for supersoldiers and get something about as dangerous as a monkey with a slingshot.
Indeed. Somehow we always wind up with supersoldiers that have massive bulging shoulders. Can't we get supersoldiers that are more intelligent? More Skilled? I guess more HP is easier to code than better AI.

I'd love to see a game which features Yahtzee, whom you control as your avatar. As you deliver each scathing review in the form of a minigame, a horde of fanbois and angry game designers charge out in furious waves that you must defeat, preferably in gruesomely hillarious ways for extra points. The more scathing and vitriolic your review (and funny!) the angrier and more steroid-pumped they get. Ahhh that would rock!

Super-soldiers are only really effective fighting other super-soldiers. That's why the description for the characters in "Livewires" by Adam Warren (the man behind the awesome, sexiness of "Empowered" & "Dirty Pair") is:

"They're the superhuman products of a top-secret, quasi-governmental R&D program with a unique agenda: namely, to seek out and destroy OTHER top-secret, quasi-governmental R&D programs."

*To Yahtzee* I would actually like to see a review from you about the game "Crackdown" for Xbox 360. It has the open-world sandbox gaming that you like, and the super-soldiers that you hate. Just an interesting suggestion.

Yahtzee, that superpowered Olympics scenario may just be the best damn video game idea I've ever heard. Someone make this game!

In the near future, in the light of increased steroid abuse and that one guy with the false legs who can run really fast, the Olympic committee creates a third, separate Olympics - the Anything Goes Olympics, in which players can use as much drugs and body augmentation as they want. Then the genetic engineers get involved, and the games eventually become a splice-off between each country's science teams, creating mutants ideally suited to each sport. Swimmers with dolphin tails, goalkeepers with hands the size of cars, etc. One fateful year, a large amount of psychosis-inducing drugs intended for the Greco-Roman event somehow finds its way into the rugby players' half-time oranges. Now it's up to YOU to stop a rampaging mob of seven-foot ogres in stripey shirts from eating the entire audience.
I had to post about this, because I remember reading a science fiction book with this storyline. Even just a cursory search on Google reveals scores of possibilities about the book I remember. This is an exploitable niche. Check out a bunch of old short stories in the collection called "Science Fictional Olympics (Isaac Asimov's Wonderful Worlds of Science Fiction #2)"

Man I'm digging up an old thread here. Anyone consider that the joker just did it for the giggles? Seems like something he'd do.

I agree though, super soldiers are pretty dull most of the time.

Here is my idea...
In the future, some countries during Wartime creates supersoliders.
Soldiers genetically altered to be freaks of humans, super strong, super reflexs, and with there weapons built in, dependent on their structure. (IE: The big one gets a helicopter mini-turret in their stomach)
They were obedient and listen to there orders and etc etc.
They won the war, thats great, but, they all get sent to a nuclear bunk.
Why? So the outside world wouldn't be hurt by them.
Then it the worse came.
They became self-aware.
Why should the strong be forced to serve?
They rebelled. All of them, but one.
The one Retarded supersoldier did not realize that.
When they searched the bunker after the uprising, they find him.
And you play as that retard. Set to stop the Uprising from conquering the world.

It is stated nearly blatantly that Joker did all for giggles. Oracle mentions that it is an insane idea which is exactly why Joker is doing it. Joker has never done anything that made much sense. He doesn't have a tangible objective. He just wants chaos and death. He wants to pull everyone else into the chaotic lunacy that he inhabits. As he says to Batman at the end of the game he just wants Batman to see the world as he sees it. Normally I see the super soldier in a game and it breaks the game for me, especially in shooters. I'm like hello my bullets will tear your flesh just as easy. With Arkham though it worked because they are intended to fight Batman who does not use guns just hand to hand, so in that context it is useful. Even the Joker doesn't care if his super soldiers are effective or not. It is all to get Batman as angry, frustrated, and worn out as he can before the showdown. Joker's whole plan all along is to inject Batman with the steroid. He wants Batman to decided that the only way to beat Joker is to descend to his level and his world.
