Support a Good Cause With Just a Click of Your Mouse

Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising [http://www.godsandheroes.com/] developer Heatwave Interactive has pledged to donate $1000 to the AbleGamers Foundation if it gets 1000 "Likes" on Facebook.

This is the easiest good thing you'll do all day. Go to the Heatwave Interactive [http://www.facebook.com/godsheroesromerising], the studio behind Rome Rising. It's a can't-lose deal; even if you've never heard of the game, all you have to do is click your mouse to do a solid for physically-challenged gamers.

The AbleGamers.com [http://www.ablegamers.org/], a site that provides gaming news, reviews and other content aimed at disabled gamers.

And while you're at it, you might as well give the game a look too. Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising is an "award-winning Roman mythology-themed MMO" that's been in development since 2004. Work on the game was halted in late 2008 but Heatwave acquired the rights [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/98498-Gods-Heroes-Snapped-Up-by-Heatwave] to the game in February 2010, resumed development and now expects to have it ready to roll out sometime in 2011.

So, bottom line: like something on Facebook, help out a good cause and maybe discover a cool game in the process. This should be the easiest thing we do all day; hell, the Escapist crew should be able to squeeze that grand out of Heatwave by itself in about ten minutes. So get to it! 1000 likes is nothing, but the effort is kind of appreciated. Will be nice to see where this goes

Helping more people into gaming is always good. Plus that for once this doesn't involve any form of registration and stuff to be able to help. It's always because of that, that I don't bother.

I would love to do this, but that would first require that I create a Facebook profile in the first place, and that's never ever going to happen. Oh well.

$1000? That's the cheapest positive PR anyone will ever buy.

Unfortunately I will not be "liking" it because those like buttons transmit a metric shitton of information (You wouldn't believe the amount of info you give them just by clicking that, it's fucking scary)

Call me paranoid but I'm not doing it. I'm sure it will make it without me.

I can appreciate the effort, but it feels kinda shameless. It's like when a company puts a pink label on their product during November because they know it'll boost sales to people who think that the product goes towards Breast Cancer charity. If the game is good, then fine, but I'm gonna click "Like" just because I might get a guilt trip for not doing so. They should get their Likes from a good product, not because their willing to donate a paltry amount of money to some charity.

Good to know I'm not the only one not jumping on the bandwagon (Edit: Mmm, double-negative confusion), even if it is for a different reason.

It's actually taking a lot longer to hit that 1000 likes mark than I expected. At last check, it was 939. I thought we'd have this done in ten minutes, people!

Thanks and good job to everyone who clicked, and who will click in the future. Sometimes good karma is really easy to come by.
