I got into a fight with one of my friends recently, which basically ended with him saying he didn't want to hang out or talk to me anymore. It was a pretty stupid fight on both our parts I'll admit (though I still stand by what I said), but it got me thinking about how good a friend he really was if he was willing to just throw away a good friendship over one altercation (and this is someone I hang out with almost every day). I considered him to be one of my better friends, so I was kind of surprised by his reaction. The sad thing is that I would still be his friend if he could just talked to me like a man, but instead he decided to just ignore me and told me not to talk to him.

Has anyone experienced something like this where they suddenly lost a friend over something stupid? If so what did you do after that?

This pretty much sounds like when me and my recent ex broke up. As for what did I do? I tried to fix things but they'd have none of it. Their loss.

He'll come around.... wait you're both dudes right? If so, don't worry about it. Me and some of my best buds have gotten into some pretty serious scraps, actual fist on face contact, and have all gotten over it.

Now when girl friends fight.... that's a whole other ball game.

I gotta say he isnt much of a friend, really if that is all to take to toss it away. by best friend from back in my college day hell we nearly came to blows a time or 2, being 2 stubborn capricorns trying to work on stuff together gets tense sometimes lol. but we go cool off come back later and hammer things out.

real friends will be with you when things are good or bad, heck given enough time maybe your friend will come around and get over it i suppose. hang in there.

I had a similar experience with a best friend several years ago. I had pointed out a simple observation regarding his changed behaviour to a mutual friend (who had a crush on him, although she knew he was gay) who in turn told him a twisted version of it. He then decided that because of that one incident, six years of friendship didn't mean anything, and stopped talking to me for three years. Thankfully, several months ago we connected again, and it's been good.

Still, it's quite surprising how easily people are willing to ignore years of memories, shared experiences, laughter and happiness after a usually stupid argument.

Yea, I'm hoping it all just blows over eventually. Just sucks that shit happens.

A friend of mine got into a argument with another friend and they don't speak anymore. But the funny thing is that it all could have been settled if the one had tried having a civil conversation and get the other side of the story but instead he decided to hear only one side and based all his thought's purely on that.

I lost a friend over a game of soccer. We were in opposing classrooms in grade 6, and it ended up being a pretty fierce rivalry. The staff actually had to get involved with how heated things became.

Yes, my best friend committed suicide, the stupidest thing anyone could ever do. Afterwards, I hung out with my friends, played some games, told some jokes, and cried a lot.
