So, over a year ago I tore my left crucial ligament (ACL) and my meniscus (excuse the terrible spelling for the medical terms for the parts of my leg. I didn't actually care what they were called, I just wanted them to stop hurting.) Anyway, I had surgery (heavy anesthesia, knives, cameras, scars, therapy, a year of pain...you know, the whole shebang!) and now I'm walking again and almost back to normal.
I spent most of my time on the internet or gaming while I was healing (still do that now) because I couldn't do anything else, really.
So I'm wondering:

How many of you escapists have had surgery, are going to have it or are currently recovering from the procedure?
And how many of you are spending most of you recovering time on your computer?
:]

I had surgery a while back to fix my nose. The cartilage had grown weird or something and because of that my life was in a perpetual state of the sniffles.

I got it fixed in December, recovered in a month and have never looked back.

So, I had surgery but no, I'm not recovering and posting here any longer.

Edit: I hope you recover soon and feel well as your life returns to normalcy. I forgot to mention that when I posted last night.

I tore some cartilage in my knee while playing flag football (American) for my middle school (7th grade). We had some very poor quality grass and I must have stepped into a hole, but me being stubborn, I played the rest of that football season and basketball season before opting for surgery over spring break. Took me maybe 6 months to walk on my own power again. I spent most of the time off on the vidya games.

I also had my wisdom teeth taken out ealier this summer, which took about a week before I could fully open my jaw again. Most of that time was on the computer.

Oh, also I had stiches near my eye as a 2 year old if that counts. Clumsy me falling in a rose bush. Almost poked my eye... at least now I have a really neat scar right next to my eye though. ^_^

Also, TC how did you tear your ACL and meniscus? Just curious, but you don't need to answer.

I've never had surgery (unless stitches count), but there's a good chance I'll have to at some point. My gag reflex is so bad that I'm pretty much constantly vomiting at the slightest stimulus, so I will probably have to have my esophagus/stomach repaired.

Yup. 6th grade. Spinal Surgery. Morphine made me vomit. Had to tough it out with extra-strength tylonol. Sucked Ass. Especially because I may not have even needed it. That's why I don't trust doctors. Well, it's part of why I don't trust doctors.

Fuckers.

Haha by the sounds of things I've had almost all the same surgeries as you've had!
I got my wisdom teeth out about a year ago. Almost killed myself with it though, considering that I kept thinking that the stitches in my mouth had dissolved enough that I could just pull them out (fyi: you can't do that...it hurts a bloody lot.)

My knee? Lol soccer. Same as your thing, actually. First game of the season and the grass wasn't groomed well. So I was running and I just...fell...somehow. I hit the ground and couldn't speak because it hurt so much, so I couldn't tell anyone what was wrong for about 5 minutes! Arg the agony lol. The car trip too was a nightmare, every turn hurt! Didn't find out it was torn in two until 2 weeks after I had been walking on it. Didn't like those days one bit!
(Alternatively, a girl on my team said that she thought she saw someone kick me as I ran for the ball. I don't remember that, but it's possible. Haha and that also sounds cooler than tripping on a clump of grass, donit?)

One of my friends actually tore the caritlage in her knee too. S
he got the surgery, but didn't go for physio. Now it's biting her in the ass. I hope you went for yours!!

Morphine made you vomit? How terrible! Why'd it do that? Were you just allergic to it or...?
That sounds like for serious surgery...

I had surgery once when I was a tiny little kid.
Like, 2-4 years old.
I apparently broke my arm.

Nothing since then, though!
Hooray for me!
About the same for me.

Wheeeeeeee!

I had surgery to take out a saliva gland that kept filling up a bubble in my mouth. That thing wasn't fun to deal with.

Closest thing I've had to surgery is havingmy wisdom teeth removed when I was 18. However, I'm going to have my gall bladder removed in about a month or so. Luckily they can just scope that bastard out via my belly button so it'll be fast, mostly painless, and involve a quick recovery. At the very least i'll be glad not to have to deal with gall stones anymore. Holy crap do those things suck.

I had "surgery" to fix a couple really ingrown toenails. The first one took about a week to recover, the next one I didn't even give a day. I played soccer on it the night I had the "surgery" on.

Now I just cut them out myself, infected skin and all.

I think i had surgery on one of my kidneys at some point when i was four or five. I know i still have both kidneys but i remember being in hospital for an awful long time and i remember my mum saying something about being in hospital because of my kidneys.

Yeah, I was just allergic. And yeah, it was pretty serious. Apparently, if I didn't have it, I may have woke up someday without any feeling in my legs. But there was no proof of that. There still isn't. I have no idea if I actually needed the damn surgery or not. No one does. Hell, a while ago, my mom said that, looking back, even she thinks the whole thing was a mistake.

Sorry, I'm kinda venting, aren't I?

Going to have that in the future since I desire to be a woman and not submit to the hell I was condemned to at birth.

I.e. being born a man.
Women generally have it harder than we do...

I haven't had any real surgery, just cut open in small places and copious amounts of injections and medical tests.

Is that the one in your knee? Cause if so, my brother did the exact same thing. It took him about 6 months to realise what he had done, though, so it was pretty fucked.

OT: I've never had surgery but both my brothers and my mother have. One brother got knee surgery, the other one back surgery and my mum got surgery on both her hips, twice!!!

We're not a very lucky family.

I've only had one surgery before. I had so many negative side effects from it when I got home, that I refuse to ever have any kind of surgery ever done again. I'd rather suffer and die before I go through with that. I actually legally died for a bit while at home trying to recover, so I don't see enough of a difference to make it worth it anyway.

I have had 3 surgeries, and i have one coming up either near Christmas or in early 2011. Im not that good with the English terms for the surgeries or the conditions so i wont embarrass myself by trying to describe them. all i can say that its for my liver and bowel.
