I am helping with a surprise party and need suggestions on entertainment or activities please.
So far it is a pool party and a barbeque, its not a huge party either. So suggestions would be much appreciated and thanks.

People who are going are around 17 or 18 no alcohol.

I thought parties did the whole dancing to music, grabbing a beer, eating some food, jumping in the pool from the roof when drunk kinda thing... then again this is just the information that I got from American teen-movies, I dont know how actual pool parties go down.

The average age of the party-goers would be nice.

So far, all I can suggest right now is to play Journey in the background.

make it part rubix party! everyone has an article of clothing thats coloured eg yellow pants, red hat, green shirt.
By the end of the night the person who has an outfit thats one colour they get a prize.
how do you get a one colour outfit? why you swap with others :D

make sure you play Korn's word up as well

Make a dress up night. Whoever that dresses up the best they get a prize of money or something.
Or have a dance.

For music I highly recommend spotify. If you can connect a PC (or laptop may be easier) to some good speakers or an amp it is a great way to get music that everyone likes but you may not have. You can also buy a day pass for £1 and get it advert free for 24 hours (or if you are running it in Linux through WINE it's ad free anyway. Don't know if they know about this!). However there are some artists they don't have yet so it's worth having a look at the selection before deciding!

Grooveshark is ad free and has a very wide selection of tunes, I prefer it to spotify.

Fancy dress or themed clothing may be a good idea for most parties but a surprise party kinda leaves the person it's a surprise for the odd one out surely?

Just good food, good music and a pool is all you really need - and if they're 17-18 why no beer (are you american? if so sorry dude, chalk one up for britain :D )

American Teen movies are great for that sort of thing, I like the way everyone knows everyone and they all shake hands, the only person not known will be the hot blonde chick that the main character will try to seduce shortly after being told her "backstory" by his best friend*

*who is also the geek/nerd character to play comic foil to the protagonist with his common sense.
