so i was working the late shift at work yesterday. one of the patrons, totally smashed, decides its time to leave. on his way out he trips through the old plate glass window. for those of you unfamiliar with glass it doesn't work like in the movies where you can jump through unscathed, particularly the old glass. his chest and shoulder had suffered the worst of it. surprisingly i found myself jumping over the bar and doing everything possible. apparently, so the paramedics told me, if i had not reacted like i did the man might not have made it.

my question to you, my fellow escapists, is have you ever been in a situation where your autopilot reactions have surprised you?

I once needed picking up from somewhere, and I went outside, and watched my parents driving away. I can tell you, I have never run so fast.

Dodgeball. Three balls, four people still left. Two are flying at me as I am pretty much running in circles and I manage to stop in between them Matrix-style. Made me feel badass until I got hit eventually.

well kinda, there was this one time in school, my brother was being picked on by some kid in my year and he went to hit my brother, i instinctively jumped in the way of his punch and grabbed the guy i was just holding him telling him to bugger off and he smacked me in the face but i didn't really feel it at the time (adrenaline i guess) yeah anyway that's my story... not as awesome as yours i must say... but still ^_^

I had a story but yours is far more interesting!

I only suprise myself negatively, really.
Like, for instance, frequently I discover that I can't do simple things a toddler could do. Such as use a ladle.
Who'da thunk it.

my friends and me were climbing around on a tree when one of the branches broke, and one of my friends fell flat on his back. i not only helpped him home, but i was ordering my friends like it was decided i was leader, even though i despise and try to avoid ever making decisions. of course, the injury only caused him to limp for about a day or to, but it's the thought that counts.

Mine is not that great, but once I saw a fly on the very edge of my vision, so it was barely visible. My hand snapped out, without even turning my head or moving my eyes, and I snatched it out of the air. I was pretty pleased with myself and my lightning reflexes.

You ever jump over a moving car? No? Neither have I.

But I did break someone's nose, something I never thought I could do being as timid and shy as I am. My sister's best friend. She was talking down to me one time she stayed the night, made me so mad I stormed out in the dead of winter in bare feet and my thin, sleeveless night shirt and pajama pants. I walked around for nearly half an hour, came back with my skin tinged blue, and she continued talking to me like I was scum.

So, I popped her with a right hook. GOD, was it ever satisfying.

Not as cool as your story, but hey, you asked.

Power slideing down the highway doing 60 miles per hour in a whitout (can't see my hood orinment) behind a fully loaded semi truck and trailer.

Not kidding, seriously, ended up in the ditch upside down, looked at my hands as soon as everything stopped spinning and they were as steady as a pair of rocks.

I scored a 23 on the ACT (Don't know if that's a good score) with zero studying, I've never studied in my life and I'm a high B to A student.

While playing a nine-tile variant of Scrabble I've managed to make high scoring words with few tiles, a 60+ point word with four tiles, 50-60 point words with two tiles. And several times I've managed to score over one hundred points on a single seven letter word (seven letter words nets the player a bonus 50 points)

Not as impressive as saving someone life...but:

I was playing my History teacher in Badmington and we got into a very hardcore rally,
Next thing I know is I'm in the zone and I'm putting on moves that should be impossible for someone of my chunky body. I even dived at a shot, got back up again and smashed the return into my teacher's face, winning the match.
With that, I took a very well deserved victory lap around the gymnasium
