I like a lot of different music, and every now and then I'll come across a band that will combine a genre with another contradictory or obscure genre, instrument, etc. to make something that is surprisingly awesome.

For example, Alestorm
A pirate metal band complete with an accordion and a singer doing that stereotypical "yar matey" pirate voice.

Or Richard Cheese
A talented singer/comedian who takes popular songs from various genres and makes them into classy sounding 1950s Big Band style jazz/swing songs.

What kind of strangely awesome music combinations have you come across?

Alestorm is pretty kick ass.

I found this band called Whispered after listening to Alestorm because I wanted to find some ninja-metal to go with my pirate-metal.
they're a Norwegian band that has japanese themes and traditional japanese instruments in their songs.

and I have this
also found when looking for something that could be considered ninja-metal. And I want a Shamisen now.

I never thought metal and country could combine so well. Sure country and punk, but I never heard good country metal, until Hank Williams III came along
