1 in 4 is only 25% , thus meaning 75% of gamers show no or little interest in a new console. Having a new console now ( or winthing the next year ) would be a bad idea. with the recent release of the Xbox kinect and that ps3 thing ( sorry dont remember the name ) gamers already have something reletively new the play with and a new console would not sell as much is potentially possible. what would need to be done , is to slow down ( not stop) the production of games, and let gamers bask a while in what they have , just long enough that they long for something new, then ship a new console, to make the maximum amount of money and interest the most amount of people.

Gimme some prices then we'll talk.

If they're low, we'll talk about purchasing it.

If they're high, we'll talk about Spiderman.

Because I'm not paying too much for a new console. It took me a fair while to set aside money for the PS3, and I don't know whether or not I'll have the time to get it all on time.

Why do Sony and Microsoft even need to put out a new console? The graphics are more then enough as it is, only lack Primary Memory...
And the lack of dx11 support, lack of CPU power. The consoles are way out of date. These are the longest lasting consoles, it's about time they're replaced. I was beginning to think they don't want to advance the technology because fear of a cylon attack oO.

Well, I'm not. I want at least one more year out of my 360 before I have to trade up for a new one.

Though it did just occur to me my Slim is nearly a year old. Wow. It feels like I just got it. Well, I suppose if the consoles don't come out for another couple years announcements wouldn't be too bad, but I feel like my 360 has more than enough life left in it to last me awhile.

I would have to see what the new systems have, but I doubt I'll be interested in buying a new system from anyone. Not for many years anyway.

"Real interest will be driven by features, games, and price, which are all completely up in the air at this point."

And that sums up why I think this survey is a waste of time. Sure, lots of people were INTERESTED in the PS3...

INTEREST and WILLINGNESS are two different things.
No truer words were spoken. If it weren't for that ridiculous launch price tag, I would've been with Sony all along. As it is, their console is the current gen one I don't own.

Just because we're interested in new tech, does not mean we're willing to fork out shedloads prematurely.

Im interested but keep em cheaper than last gen should be easy (since the tech is old) to surpass it but still be cheaper.

of course they will over charge you though ...

Well it looks like I'm in the 3/4 of gamers who, after the this ...interesting... console gen, are completely pessimistic about the next one.

Have no desire to buy any new console. The present generation is more than good enough, and I will be more than happy with the games that will be coming out during this generation. that's more than good enough.

I'm curious, how difficult would it be for Sony and Microsoft to just make 360s and PS3s with better, more up-to-date hardware that are still capable of connecting to the PSN and Xbox Live?
I think the 360 and PS3 both use the old network (until Microsoft updated the network to up the "friend" limit to 200+ "friend,s")

Not surprising, considering how much we know about the console.

For me, we've hit the ceiling. I really don't care if the new Xboxwhatever or Playstation 4 will have better graphics, I really don't notice that much of a difference anymore. And a new wii with better graphics and a potentially even more in depth social networking base? Sounds interesting, but I rarely use the Wii as it is, so I doubt I'd buy a new one without some amazing day 1 launch titles, which Nintendo apparently can't get right these days anymore.

All in all, these console makers should be focusing more on the hardware than the software at this point, which is why I think PS3 and Xbox360 are beating the Wii, for what that statement's worth, at the current time. Better games, more adventurous titles, and not the same FPS dribble that we've been getting spoon fed the past 3 years. We don't need to spend more money and fancier consoles that don't do anything significantly better than the old ones; give us amazing first party and third party games, and I promise Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, that your sales will go through the roof, more so than any console will give you.

I wouldn't buy a new console generation, because I don't do consoles. I would, however, love to see a new console generation ASAP - the more powerful the better. It would allow for multi-platform games to be bigger and more complex, thus improving my PC gaming experience.

I must be that one gamer that doesn't care about new gen. consoles.

My PS3 can do a lot of things and I'm simply in love with it. There are plenty of good games out (Plus the MOVE, but that's just in case I'm ever out of non-MOVE games to play) and the online multiplayer feature gives most games a bigger replay value (I'm looking at you, Blops people).

I'm probably speaking out of ignorance, but how could it get any better at this point? 3D gaming is the only thing that comes to mind when I think of a new console and the new features that might come with and that would make it better than the last console. And 3D gaming? It still needs to be polished. A lot. We have the 3DS as living proof that it's not enough to have pretty graphics pop out of the screen to make a console successful.

Unless they add a microwave to the PS4, then there's no reason to release it soon. It's horrible to see how the PS3 is still fairly young and people are already asking about the next gen. console. I'm not referring to anyone in particular in here, but I've seen people do this, specifically some of my friends. It's as if I give my friend a birthday gift and he gives me a hug and goes on to ask "Hey, so what are you getting me for next year?".

But the number one reason why I don't want a new gen. console? It will probably be worth $1000, give or take. I'm just spitballing here but if the PS2 was $200 brand new and the PS3 was around $600-700 when it first came out, I can only assume the PS4 would be waaaay more expensive. And if that ever happens, it will be the day I will retire from gaming, perhaps. You know, cause I prefer to eat and pay bills than to buy something that expensive.

Come on, I waited a couple of years for the PS3 to drop in price. I barely have a year with it. Don't start talking about the next new thing yet.

hmmm...do console developers consider this kind of vagarity when making a new console? it would explain alot...

im pretty sure 40-50% of people are 'interested' in new consoles all the time; new=improved, at least in most peoples minds, and i cant imagine many people who wouldnt be 'interested' in improved versions of things. its the reason people eat up each iteration of the iphone; half of them dont even know what a 'G' is, they just know that the new iphone has more of it and they need to have it.
