Lately I have noticed numerous messages that state at the bottom of the post that User "X" has been suspended for Comment "Y". However, when i click on the link to see what they said that was so bad, the comment seems benign and really lacking for want of attention that would merit said suspension. Not all of the posts have been like this, but a fair amount.

My question is, why are people banned for simple comments that, while they may contain harsh tone, are annoying at best and moderately insensitive at worst?

Not that I'm bitter about my recent suspension or anything, but I seem to notice the mods get stricter and stricter the longer you've been here, something about "learning" and "maturity" or the same old BS my parents used to tell me.

I think they feel users who have been here longer should be responsible model citizens of the escapist community... or not, whatever that's cool too.

I think because of most of the blatant rule-breaking that goes on sometimes the mods feel like rampant use of the banhammer will learn us

Usually they lay out suspensions to either continueous offenders or members who have been here a while and should know better.

A lot of bans are because of a history of bad behavior and generally being a jerk; the linked-to post is just the last straw, and sometimes not even that.

As for suspensions over seemingly mild things, we are somewhat strict compared to a lot of forums, but a lot of those suspensions were warranted (though I'm not entirely with the mods on the low-content thing).

Usually if the mods give punishments for benign comments, it's either because (a) the post is subtly breaking the guidelines, or (b) the user has a history of breaking rules/warnings, and that was the first post the moderators found.

For instance, there used to be a user on these forums by the name of Indigo_Dingo, a blatant PS3 fanboy who would engage in diatribes against other forum members over the slightest of things. The post he was banned for was actually pretty tame, but he was banned on the grounds of making the forums a less-pleasant place, or at least that's what I garnered from lurking.

There are other examples, but that's the only one that comes off the top of my head.I hope that answers your question.

And if I'm wrong, someone correct me. I'm pretty sure that that's how this place works.

EDIT: Bah, semi-ninja'd. Curse my slow typing speed.

I think the mods are fair with the way they punish posters. I've seen two recent people get suspended. One for Bumping his RP and the other for self Advertisment.

I'm starting to see why mods hate low content post. Since I get a lot of comments on my videos that are usually
"lol"
"own"
Though I do delete the and they wonder why I did. However
"Who are you?" comments make me laugh.

I think it ensures that everyone contributes more to the community unlike sites like youtube.
I'll elaborate: I'm fine with the low-content rule itself, as posts that say "huh" or "wow" really aren't productive. However, I've seen quite a few suspensions over posts that while rather skimpy, still get a message across and have some genuine content. It's more of a practice thing, really, I'm all for cracking down on Youtube-esque comments.

Now that scares me because my opinions and ideals are controversial and have caused long arguements with other users before.
Yeah, but everyone likes you. Your not pants on head retartar like some other trolls who decide to make accounts here

I've been suspended before, but in my perfect hindsight it was well deserved. Basically I started a flame war. The mods here are strict, not stupid usually. Be happy that we even have mods that care.

Basically they expect high-number posters to not act like jackasses and set a good example for the newbies of the site.

That is why I always welcome new users and give them a bit of helpful advice.
