So, after much trying to figure out why swearing is considered bad, I have failed. Everyone who tells me to stop hasn't really come up with a reason other than is apparently reduces your vocabulary, despite me knowing vastly more words than they do.
Escapists, I turn to you know, why is swearing so bad?
because of one of Gods commands, good water and bad water cannot flow from the same stream so praises and curses should not flow from the same mouth.

Fuck them.
I get told to stop swearing all the time but that never stops me.
What I find funny is when a guy I dont know will swear around me and then he will apologize to me. I just tell him I say a whole lot worse. xD

Funny story: I was telling my friend about <a href=http://www.icanhasforce.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/star-wars-mace-windu-bad-ass.jpg>this demotivational poster on a bus and after quoting it the bus driver looked at me as said "hey". So I turn to my friend and say "she must be a very devout Yoda fan". This irks her and says "you know what I mean!". Which was followed by "why is cursing 'bad'?". This bus driver doesn't make eye contact with me anymore.

I am sure to curse in front of little children, in public places, and at formal events, hoping someone will be able to tell me why cursing is bad. It is almost to the point where it is my purpose in life.

Well, fuck and shit never used to be a swear word.

Fuck used to stand for For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, which was a crime back in the day, and when they were put in the stocks, they wrote FUCK on the front.

Shit, used to stand for Store High In Transit, because manure and such would combust in the cargo hold of ships. There for to stop it from doing so, they would mark the boxes with SHIT.

It's very odd, when I'm with my friends, swearing doesn't seem bad at all. However when I'm with family, I'll never say a swear, not even a mild one. I've gotten quite good at bottling up emotion, and releasing it later. Swearing is one of the ways to do that.

I once (many many years ago) said to my grandfather:

"Grandad, why do you swear so much?"

He replied:

"Because if I didn't fucking swear then all my fucking sentences would be full of fucking gaps."

"because it's rude" sums it up; but swearing should best be left for comedy effects for punctuating insane, stupid, or outrageous behavior or events

Both of these are annoyingly persistent folk etymologies--i.e., neither is true. Acronyms don't really show up in the English language until about World War II, and most of our obscenities are much, much older than that.

"Fuck", for instance, is at a minimum five hundred years old, and descends from a Germanic root word meaning roughly "thrust" or "strike". "Shit" is most likely even older, and comes from an Old English root, "scitan", with the basic meaning of "divide" or "separate", as in purging the body of something by separating from it.

?The foolish and wicked practice of profane cursing and swearing is a vice so mean and low that every person of sense and character detests and despises it? - George Washington.

?There ought to be a room in every house to swear in? - Mark Twain

Our peers appear to be of divided mind about it.

But, WHY?!
THAT'S THE QUESTION.
I see nothing wrong with it, although my family all says otherwise.
I especially love when stuff made for kids is taken away because it has swearing in it which is 'wrong, and shouldn't be around children', and EVERY single one of those fuckers that say that shit to me get a verbal bitchslap, because I always say "Quit shooting shit out of your mouth, because you know and I know that when parents or adults aren't around, kids swear so fucking much, don't deny it, cause it's true, and they all do it, so there's NO point fucking censoring everything for people who already do it."
Srsly, I mean, you know what I think, I think there needs to be NO censoring, unless it's something really gory or something, because you know what, I really don't give a shit if they're children, because they'll ALL be seeing tits when they're older, and they'll ALL be hearing swearing when they're older, and they'll ALL be seeing horror movies and playing violent videogames, so there's really no fucking point in it, prepare them for that shit and let them know how the world is.

You say that when your 5 year old son is saying "Fuck off dad you ****"

Its disrespectful

We're aren't censoring swearing, but if me and you are having a discussion and you think I'm wrong. Is it not better to say "I disagree" rather than "Your such a fucking idiot"

See disrespect

No, There's always a reason. It maynot be a good reason or make any sense but there is always a reason.

EDIT: You're English there is your reason. Most Scot's have an ungodly hate for the English.
