Hope this goes better than when they did Dune.
The only thing that let down their Dune adaptations was the spectacularly low budget and downright strange costume decisions. I mean matte backgrounds in the year 2000? Sardaukar wearing giant berets? Christ.
Indeed. That stuff aside (and I can kind of forgive the budgetary stuff because I don't recall the network doing anything that big before) it was about as close to the source material as I can imagine an adaptation being. Certainly you couldn't squeeze it all in in a movie. If another mini-series was made today I'm sure it could be done better, but as adaptations go it's really not bad at all.

No love for 2061?
Not alot happens in that one except the Chinese space crew getting eaten by a sea monster(one of Europa's new life forms) while refueling their H2O on the icy surface.
No, that was 2010. 2061 is about a mountain made out of diamond, that was sticking out of the ocean of Europa.

I'll join the chorus of "wait, they're skipping 2061?" I liked that one. My second-favorite after 2010.

...wait, which was the one where HAL becomes a star child?
Again, that was 2010.
I remember now its the the book thats basically a thinly veiled criticism of apartheid SA.

On the one hand, it's Ridley Scott and he knows what he's doing. On the other hand, it's on Syfy, which may as well be an admission to horrid quality. I just don't know...
Syfy did give us the Battlestar Galactica reboot. Even though the latter seasons sucked, the first few seasons were damn good science fiction entertainment. Granted that was prior to the renaming of the network, but that shouldn't be such a big deal. They're not that bad, they don't try to tout their b-movies as a-list material. They know and apparently love their cheesy side so when the more serious quality stuff is released it can shine even brighter.
That being said, they did screw up the latter half of Galactica though that may have just been the writers' and not necessarily the network's fault.

Yes, before their rebranding. That was also the period in time when G4 was about videogames and TLC had educational programming. There's a pattern here.

I watched a lot of pre- and post-rebranding of Syfy, there isn't that much programming difference. If you want to really compare though, the Science Fiction Channel of the 90s had even worse stuff back then intermixed with some of the first anime I ever watched and some decent Scifi stuff. The channel hasn't always been great which reflects how much crap scifi media there is in general. There's a lot of shit out there and I'd say a handful of good stuff.
However speaking of G4 I was never impressed with what they had before they went off the deep end. TLC and History are the worst offenders though of becoming crap TV.

Me too, the majority of my ancestry is located in Norway. Did one of those genealogy DNA test thingies and found that my family is fairly far back in history there... might explain why when I get into a fight I go berserker mode. I can say I'm part viking though which makes me feel good for some reason, even if I'm quite a few years removed from that whole thing.

Sometimes... I wonder if thats a genetic thing. Interesting that until you said that, I didn't notice it. I don't necessarily look down on people but yeah... other folks my height seem to be shorter. Though anyone above 2" taller registers as still being taller than me. Weird.

I've been told by people my height that I'm taller than them. Then again, I've been told that I'm more imposing and I'm almost underweight :\

Despite barely hitting the target weight for my height (6' even) and not being particularly muscular (wiry, not skinny) I still seem to unnerve people. I don't know why, its definitely not intentional...

Are you quiet? I used to be "creepy" until I just started striking up conversations without provocation. Now I'm merely "annoying" :D

I'm quiet when I first meet people, more because I observe and assimilate data before speaking. I'm genuinely courteous but I don't necessarily strike up conversations immediately. Once I get to know someone, I'll speak more. Generally I don't talk much anyway, not even to people I'm close to. Its not my nature, but I won't ignore people either. I don't like to waste words verbally which is weird because I'll write paragraphs on what I'm thinking.
I guess folks find me odd and standoffish which can weird some folks out.

That's how it was for me before. But people got a lot friendlier once I just started talking at them. Good example, this semester I took Physics I and I don't know the people in the class. Solution: change lab tables (and partners) every lab.
