So, here's the deal I found my Mass Effect (the first one), to play it (again), because I want to import my save file to ME2, but I have lost all my save files in an "accident" so, my computer meets the minimum and recommended requirements, but it still lags as hell. I downloaded the patch 1.2 and closed all background programs but its still very slow, what can I do to correct it. My specs are: Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz, 2.0 GB RAM, Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2, GeForce 8600 GT and DirectX 9.0. Just don't tell me to upgrade...

You shouldn't have to upgrade, your graphics card is good, you have enough RAM, and ME runs on XP, you shouldn't be having any problems... interesting.

Oh, and did I mention that I don't want to play on the lowest graphic setting, I was hoping for the highest, seeing as I meet the requirements... :(

With an 8600GT, you'll need to reduce the settings somewhat. Did you have problems running it previously?

Not a chance that is going to happen. To play Mass Effect properly you are going to need more than that, even your GFX card will need a tiny boost.

Well, I didn't mean, the "highest", no film grain, no dynamic shadows and a lot of things...
Turn them down to low and see if performance improves. If it does, the video card is the culprit. If not, you know to look somewhere else.
